This Oceanfront vacation home has gorgeous views of turquoise water and is very private. The Gatehouse sits a quarter mile away from the next nearest beach house and if you desire privacy, this is the house for you! It features an ultra private cooling off pool. Stone walls for privacy in pool area.....The Gatehouse is a beautiful oceanfront island cottage with it's own private beach. (excellent snorkeling) Windows wrap around the house giving beautiful views of the oceans. The Gate House also features high speed Starlink internet for streaming and zoom. The granite kitchen is perfect for making fresh seafood meals. There are two bedrooms each with it's own bathroom and queen sized beds. (brand new mattresses). The living room has a Queen pull out sofa bed for an extra 2 guests. There is also a small bonus room with a twin bed and Ocean view for taking naps or an extra guest.
Kayaks are provided for going out your front door and paddling around the reefs. Snorkeling around the reefs on the bay that this house sits upon, you will see an array of beautiful tropical fish. This is a place that you will want to return to every year. The Gatehouse has all of the comforts of home too include television and WiFi.
RESTAURANTS: They are many restaurants close to our house. One is within walking distance and there are several other restaurants within 5-20 minutes that feature a mix of Bahamian cuisine, FRESH seafood and traditional American style food. If you don’t feel like going out, you can contact our caretaker and he will deliver delicious meals to your oceanfront vacation rental. You can also order a meal to be ready upon your arrival so that you can sit back and have a cocktail and enjoy the view after a day of traveling. Ask our caretaker about the many restaurants. They are also located in our guide.
The Oceanfront Gate house is 1 mile from a small grocery store that has all of the necessities. The main grocery store is located a 20 minute drive from the house. Upon your arrival our caretaker will greet you and stop at the grocery and liquor store for you to stock up for your vacation if you desire.

The Gate House is conveniently located 20 miles from the New Bight, Cat Island airport.
FROM NASSAU: Western Air Bahamas flies almost daily from Nassau to Cat Island (30 minute flight). Check their website for flight schedules. We recommend arriving Nassau approximately 2 hours before your departing flight to Cat Island to ensure that you make your connecting Western Air flight to New Bight.
FROM FORT LAUDERDALE: Maker's Air flies multiple times weekly from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport directly into Cat Island, Bahamas. Check their website for flight schedules.
CHARTERS: Bam Air offers charters from Nassau to Cat Island to suit your flight schedule. Contact us for more information.
One of the highlights of Cat Island is that it has the highest elevation of all of the 700 Bahamian islands. This high point is known as Mt. Alvernia and is a definitely see. The views are amazing and it is only 15 minutes from the house. On top of Mt. Alvernia is a landmark known as “The Hermitage” which is a small monastery built in the early 1900’s by and architect, Father Jerome who moved to the Bahamas from England. He lived in this monastery as a hermit until his death. After your hike up Mt. Alvernia, have lunch or dinner at the Blue Bird restaurant which features delicious Bahamian cuisine and is located across the road from the road to the Hermitage.
Other highlights to see are the “blue holes” located on the center of the island that communicate with the ocean and of course, the numerous beautiful white sand beaches.
Our caretaker is very helpful in assisting to set up tours of the island and white sand beaches.

Summary: This was amazing! Cat Island offered privacy, beauty, and a true island experience. It is very natural and we saw so much wildlife and enjoyed exploring the area. The island contact and caretaker, Harrison, made our trip extra special! He showed my kids how to pick and prepare coconuts, brought us to his beautiful farm and gifted us some conch shells! When you bring them back to the states, they must go in your checked luggage otherwise they will confiscate them at customs. The locals were very kind and there is a feeling of safety there. The gate house was very clean and had an abundance of towels and many areas to soak in the sun and listen to the ocean. We appreciate it the pool a lot, and there are also beaches nearby that were incredible and we felt like we had the island all to ourselves. We enjoyed snorkeling on the property and they also had kayaks with a pond nearby. Da Pink Chicken is a little island bar that’s open from about 2 to 6 on the weekends and is within walking distance. This place was a real find and we will be back!! If you want to get away from it all, this is the place

Summary: This is a cute house near the water and between two beaches. It had a smaller living space than we expected, and two cute bedrooms ( queen beds) and a small side room for a child. Most of the amenities are for 4 people ( plates/ cups etc). It is a lovely, quiet location ( a car is mandatory!).The pool area is nice, but we ended up not using it as the ocean was in front of the door.The beds are very comfortable queen beds. There is not a lot of space in the bedrooms, but that was not an issue as we were outside most of the time.There is good hot water and good WiFi.This is a cute , rustic hideaway with a beautiful view.Any issues we had were promptly dealt with by the wonderful, kind Harrison and ( if needed) by the owner.

Summary: This property is beyond fantastic! Everything is as described, but better! The beds were very comfortable and the water was nice and hot. We loved being at the end of the lane and in such a private area. Listening to the ocean every morning was heaven. The pool was such a fun extra! We fell in love with the people of the island and we have never met such kinder people! Everyone is so responsive! Thank you for everything!

Summary: This was our second time at Gate house. It was a shorter trip and we were reluctant to leave. I appreciated the pool and was in it every afternoon. We also love the beach to the South of the house and all the friendly people around to help. It was great seeing Harrison again and of course we really enjoyed seeing Captain Reynold and our fishing trips with him. Cat Island is truly beautiful and we can’t wait to come back!

Summary: When I tell you that this is paradise. Believe me! There is not one view that will disappoint. The house was perfect and everything we needed was provided. Harrison the caretaker is a gem and was so attentive to our needs and questions. The owner,Stephanie sent very detailed instructions and information before we left making our visit stress free.We flew to Ft.Lauderdale and took Markers Air to Cat Island. We rented our car from Gilbert’s and shopped at their market almost everyday. We drove from the south end to the north end and visited many places in between. It is a magical place and we have plans to return next year. Please don’t pass up on this place because of extra travel to get there. It is worth it! If I could give it 100 stars, I would.

Summary: Our stay at the Gate House on Cat Island was nothing short of exceptional. We loved the location: this beautiful property offered the perfect blend of tranquility and comfort. Having access to a beautiful, sandy beach, just a few steps away, was an awesome bonus! Stephanie was a wonderful, responsive host and her caretaker, Harrison, was a highlight of our stay. His outstanding hospitality, attentiveness, and dedication to ensuring our comfort significantly enhanced our experience. While there we asked Harrison to prepare a delicious dinner of conch, grouper, peas’n'rice, macaroni and cheese, and coleslaw. The meal was outstanding and we highly recommend you consider having him prepare a meal during your stay. The house was well-equipped and maintained, featuring all the necessary amenities for a relaxing stay, including a fully functional kitchen, comfortable bedding, and air conditioning. The beauty of Cat Island complemented our stay at the Gate House. The island's breathtaking landscapes and the calming ocean views were a constant source of delight. In summary, the Gate House on Cat Island is an excellent choice for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Stephanie is a super host!
