Gallina Cabin | Off Grid Anasazi Wilderness Cabin at Gallina Canyon Rentals

1 Bedroom Cabin in Gallina, Abiquiu

Anasazi Cabin is located within the only twenty mile long gated box canyon in the Chama Wilderness. The cabin includes a completely equipped and carpeted kitchen, living room, and dining area under a 20x30 foot roof. The cabin has cold running spring water, hot-water shower, table, chairs, cooking stove, refrigerator, pots, pans, tableware, propane barbecue, and (if there is not a fire ban in effect) propane fire pit bowl.
The rental is located on the site of an early 1900s Northern New Mexico homestead landmark and is one of three vacation rentals we have in the canyon, with Ranch Wilderness Casita and Remote Wilderness Casita.
Unique at your camp site is a 1,000 gallon soaking pool nestled inside an earthen and rock open-air water storage area which was originally built by the ancient Anasazi Indians, with a breathtaking view of the canyon's 1,700-foot red sand stone walls. The pool is fed with continuously flowing cool spring water.
Gallina Canyon Ranch has been featured in many national and regional magazines, including New Mexico magazine, The Santa Fean, Better Homes and Gardens, Sunset, and Martha Stewart Living.
On rare days when heavy rain makes the road too muddy to travel, we will take you to the camp and leave with you our mud-friendly truck with tire chains for emergency use.
The specially designed protected play area for your children is at the ranch. You may walk or drive. At the ranch is the community swimming pond, inflatable kayaks, floating trampoline, Slither (a 17-foot water park floating snake on which children can sit, stand, and walk), and a sand box with children's toys. The Gallina River runs right by this area where children love to play in the mud. We supply towels.

Summary: This is my third stay. Twice was in the homey casita, and this time it was "glamping" at the Anasazi. I can convey enough gratitude for sleeping in utter and complete silence and darkness. What a gift. This experience is not for the faint of hear though: if you are someone who cannot sleep without noise, noise machines, and your earbuds in, this is not for you. You are also completely off-grid: no phone, not internet.... HEAVEN! And as always, Elizabeth and Andrew are wonderful hosts. Bless them for their stewardship of this magical place! I can't wait to return next season!

Summary: We came across this place by searching Google Maps for accommodation in the Chama area, as a way of breaking our trip and reducing our driving. What we found instead was the highlight of our trip: a truly amazing remote wilderness experience, surrounded by the spectacular canyon landscapes that inspired artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe. Despite being totally off the grid - no electricity supply other than solar power, no water supply other than natural spring water - this campsite has been designed for comfort. There are hot showers, a refrigerator, a full kitchen and patio (all outdoors!), integrated with an immaculately clean camper. Other than the hosts more than 1 mile away, we were the only humans in the canyon. Elizabeth, Andrew, and David were helpful, accommodating, and open. We spent 2 nights here, and regretted that our stay was so short.

Summary: Hello there Elizabeth, Andrew and David: Thanks to you all… we had a marvelous anniversary visit to your most special canyon. We are grateful that you share your place with outsiders. On the day when we crossed all 13 creek crossings, I felt as if we were entering into a scared place and just could not drink it in deeply enough. It was heaven, and we hope to return again to drink it in some more. Special happenings: part way up the arroyo just about 1/10 mi. before Anasazi cabin, I was skulking about when part of the cliff face fell off!!! Whew! I was very happy that I was NOT under it, and thrilled at the sound of the rocks falling, rolling, and the dust settling. Lots of deer, one small bull snake (maybe) and a hawk showing off for us as we drove out of the Chama canyon. And the sego lilies…I’ve never seen so many in so many places. Thanks again, it was all perfect, and Magic has recovered quite well too. Best wishes, Charly, Sam and Magic

Summary: Unfortunately , we were not able to stay at the ranch because the rains had washed out the road. Elizabeth communicated very well and we understood the crisis she was experiencing.

Summary: What a great experience! We had an excellent visit at the Glamping Cabin. We had some hesitations prior to booking this stay and weren't too sure what to expect. However, all hesitations and concerns were quickly dispelled upon arriving - the property greatly exceeded our expectations. The fun begins as soon as you turn off the highway and start the roughly 16 mile journey over dirt roads to the cabin. David, who was super friendly, met us at the gate, led us to the cabin, walked us through the details of the cabin, and answered any and all questions we had before leaving us to enjoy our stay. The cabin was amazing - well built, well thought out, well kept, well stocked, and extremely clean...everything you need, aside from food, is there. Our girls (7, 4, and 2) enjoyed running around the cabin playing in the dirt (pretend cooking) with the toys provided. We took a hike down to the river behind the cabin a ways, which was dry, to let the girls play in the sand and look at the different rocks. Each morning we were visited by a rabbit and a hummingbird. David also stopped by the first morning to bring us fresh lettuce and eggs. The beds in the cabin/trailer were extremely comfortable and fitted with nice sheets/comforters - I preferred these beds over the beds at the Hampton Inns we stayed in on other nights during our trip. We were able to watch and listen to distant thunderstorms move across the area. When a few stray sprinkles/rains passed by we took advantage of the provided cards to play uno as a family and teach our oldest how to play solitaire. Aside from David visiting on the first morning to bring the fresh lettuce and eggs, we didn't see or hear another person the entire time we were there - not even a vehicle in the distance... which was an incredibly refreshing experience. We definitely intend to visit again.

Summary: The glamping site was incredibly comfortable with all of the amenities you could possibly need. I have to say that I have never been on a more relaxing vacation. I gave myself permission to take long afternoon naps. If I had had full internet and cell service, I would have felt like I needed to check it every few minutes. I really can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this place. The hikes were amazing. The night sky - incredible. The feeling of being the only people on earth. Just WOW!!!!!

Summary: Beautiful scenic setting in a red rock walled canyon, things to explore in a number of directions. The lodging situation was even better than I had surmised from the web. The campers are modern and the beds are new and comfortable; the cooking facilities are very handy; cooking gear, utensils, etc. are all there; the outhouse has a view and is well ventilated. And a shower at the end of a hard day hiking is so very welcome. It's not really a cabin, it's not really camping - it's glamping! If I could give 6 stars I would. All in a wilderness that looks more like the canyon country of Utah than what I expect in New Mexico. Well worth a visit!

Summary: This was our second year to visit the Anasazi Wilderness Cabin, and this visit was even more delightful than our first. The cabin is in a setting that cannot be duplicated, in one of those stunningly beautiful New Mexico canyons where the picture changes all day long with the movement of the sun. It is miles away from the highway with nothing to disturb the peace and quiet of nature. We love to photograph, walk, paint, read, and just enjoy listening to the birds and the breeze through the forest. Depending on the weather, you may hear the Gallina River rolling along nearby or even see an arroyo which opens onto the cliff across the river suddenly start to gush water as it drains its collected rainfall. In the evenings, as the canyon darkens, the bats swoop in to feed; their completely silent airborne acrobatics are amazing to watch. The actual "cabin" is so well-designed that it functions as well as a home. Sleeping is cozy and comfortable, the outdoor shower--with hot water--is fantastic, and the outhouse has the world's best view. The kitchen is well equipped and, in season, lovingly furnished with delicious home-grown veggies and eggs with the most beautiful yellow yolks you will ever see. The owners/staff are always friendly and helpful, as well as full of information about the area. We leave the canyon planning when we will be able to get back to visit again.
