Town: Pilling is a small, peaceful village within the borough of Wyre in Lancashire, only six miles northeast of Poulton-le-Fylde and three miles from Knott End-on-Sea. This ancient settlement was founded on what was essentially an island, with the sea on one side and marsh on the others. In 1808, Pilling Windmill was built, operating up until the 1940’s and restored to its former glory in 2007. Traditionally, agriculture was the main industry in the area and records show that a market has been held in Poulton-Le-Fylde since at least 1348. This tradition continues to this day, with a farmers' market held every fourth Saturday. The area has something to suit all tastes; there are country and beach walks suitable for all abilities, with Pilling and Morecambe Bay being very popular with birdwatchers. The Trough of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is nearby, with walks to suit all abilities, while the many varied delights of Blackpool and Morecambe are easy to reach.
