Positive: Large and clean room, large and comfortable bed, a small decanter of sherry as an unexpected but lovely touch left in the room each day - and a very welcoming hostess in Lorraine
Negative: The location is a bit out in the sticks - once you're there, there's no wandering into anywhere unless you drive some distance to Kirkwall. Very handy though if you're going to one of the southern islands via the nearby ferry.
Summary: Great stay and good resting place but rather off the beaten track

Positive: Bed was comfortable. Location nice. Orkney as a whole is beautiful.
Negative: Felt immediately a bit intimidated by the safety rules, most of which took us by surprise arriving at 8.45pm. I had made a mistake when booking it as I didn't double check the lack of breakfast scenario. We love a bed and breakfast and I had filtered for this when booking Orkney on booking.com. So it must have de- filtered before I booked it. I'm normally very careful. This is not the fault of the Orkneylodge but booking.com I'd think. The reviews on booking.com seem out of date as some mentioned the nice breakfast and pictures showed a dining room. So I got this one wrong I'm afraid. I'd like to say it didn't affect our trip but sadly it did. The room was clean and comfortable. I'm not a fan of a separate sink inside the room, I prefer that to be within the same room as the toilet for hygiene purposes. The decor is somewhat dated but in tact. One of the glass window panels was clouded so it impeded the beautiful view. This stay for me was expensive and I did expect more. We were the only guests for the two night stay. It was £145 per night. I'd have been happier had it been £80 a night for the quality. My husband noticed some fire doors were wedged open which is unsound practice in truth. I was reluctant to do a review as I have no desire to be critical. When I asked about breakfast Lorraine said we don't advertise it, but when you are booking an area you are not very familiar with you cannot see more than the website you are booking on. We were disappointed sadly.

Positive: A spacious room, with a very comfortable large bed, we slept well. Welcoming to return in the evenings to see that someone had attended to our room during the day and replenished supplies of beverages and biscuits.

Positive: Big spacious room. Convenient location for us near the ferry to Hoy. Not too expensive.
Negative: Breakfast wasn't served at the hotel, but we weren't allowed to store anything in the refrigerator that was in our room to make our own breakfast either! And there are no cafés anywhere near the hotel for breakfast. The room was very large and comfortable, but there was only one luggage rack, even though we were two people, each with our own suitcase, and the proprietor told us not to put our luggage on the bed. She closed and moved one suitcase from a desktop while we were out, and moved around other of our belongings as well. She was very helpful in many ways but also gave us some wrong information about opening times of sites, so that we ended up waiting a long time and didn't get any breakfast, which she had enthusiastically recommended we do at the sites, until quite late in the morning!
