Positive: The property is small, but doesn't feel remotely cramped thanks to the clever design. The shower room is beautifully fitted out and feels spacious, the bedroom is well screened from the rest of the property and has a very comfortable bed, the sitting area is small but perfectly adequate. The kitchen area is compact but well equipped - perhaps not ideal for cooking a complex meal, but why would you want to when there are so many excellent and very modestly priced restaurants? There is also a large terrace, and a lovely pool on site. Rosa, the hostess, is simply wonderful! Every morning she visited us with a basket laden with breakfast supplies - bread, butter, homemade jams, cheese, ham, fruit juices, cake, eggs from her own chickens, tea and coffee. Far more than we could possibly eat, and always delivered with a smile. The location is ideal for visiting Marvao (5 minutes by car or a stiff 20 minute walk), Castelo de Vide and the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park. However, we also ventured further afield to Evora, Estremoz, Elvas and Vila Vicosa amongst others, all under 2 hours away on very quiet roads.

Positive: Lovely well designed little house with all you need. Rosa was very welcoming and super helpful. Breakfast brought to house every day with fresh bread and more food than we could eat ! Homemade jam was particularly delicious. View from the deck and pool outstanding.

Positive: Hosts helpful and pleasant. Very cute, quiet, comfy bed. Very clean. Generous breakfast.

Negative: Concrete structure not insulated properly so bathroom condensates huge amounts of water when heat running creating large puddles on floor.

Summary: Enjoyed our stay, but bathroom won't stay dry!

Positive: We stayed at Quinta d'Abegoa's apartment, Casa do Souto, which is very cosy and ideal for two people. Everything is really well thought out so the apartment felt bigger than it actually was. The bed is very comfortable and the shower is excellent. The outside space is beautiful - we loved sitting out, listening to the birds and the bells from the sheep, while enjoying the views of the both the castle and over towards the mountains and Spain. We made the most of being able to walk to restaurants in Marvao (although it is uphill all the way!) but we also cooked at the property - the kitchen is tiny but is very well-equipped and has everything you need to self-cater. Our host, Rosa, looked after us extremely well, bringing us breakfast every day, and nothing was too much trouble. We love the area around Marvao and will definitely return for another stay at Casa do Souto.
