4 Bedroom Cottage in Piazza al Serchio, Piazza Al Serchio-san Michele

Filled with original features including beamed ceilings, traditional flooring, lintels over windows, original stone staircases and flagstone courtyard, this 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom property, sleeping 8 plus 1, has been recently renovated using traditional, and where possible the original materials to create just the right ambience, for a different holiday!
Situated in perfect peace next to a trout stream this private cottage is ideal for those seeking a truly different holiday. Whilst there is a private pool, there is also the river which is a great adventure for children to play in if they bring their wellies/jellies.
The grounds are perfect for secluded picnics, with just the sounds of the river . T is extremely difficult to gain permission for a pool beside such an historic building, and in a riverside location so this property is quite unique..
This is a perfect choice for a totally ‘alternative’ holiday, staying away from it all in authentic, but comfortable accommodation, beside the river, and with great opportunity for walking. This would be a wonderful family holiday, and we imagine it would be impossible to tear children away from all this outdoor experience!

Ground floor :
Enter into hallway, with original stone stair case
The hallway leads on the left to a dining room, with plenty of room for all to dine in comfort, and this room leads through to a utlity room with washing machine, freezer and downstairs wc .
To the right of the hallway is a traditional style kitchen, with counter top oven, hob, dishwasher and fridge, and an orginal 'vetrina' for housing crockery . The kitchen has two windows.
Through the kitchen and into the living room with original fireplace, 2 fireside chairs and a corner sofa. Original vetrina,tv/dvd/cd, and door leading out to courtyard. Wifi.
First floor:
Up the traditional stone stairs to:
Two double bedrooms, both with two windows
One twin bedroom
Two brand new shower rooms, each with shower cubicle, bidet, wc and sink.
Second floor:
Into 'quiet room' - a loft style room with conservatory style furniture, ideal for relaxing away from the rest of the group, or for use as a 'den' for older children
Quiet room leads into twin bedroom - ideal for teenagers and older children.
Nb - head height in this room is full height in places but beams do come down as low as 1.5m in some areas.
All rooms have beamed ceilings and some exposed stonework.
Outside:
The house is surrounded by a traditional style courtyard with original feel stones. This area is ideal for dining al fresco and has a bbq.
Further covered eating area overlooking pool.
Ping pong.
The courtyard leads to the garden where there is a private gated, saline water swimming pool (non chlorine) of 10m x 4m .
The garden is edged by some woodland on one side, and the trout stream on the other.
There is parking under the garden for when guests use 'river road' which is pretty steep but quite navigable, or over the mediaeval bridge when coming on foot (200m away) .

Summary: Lovely stay, came by train, without a car which we thought might be a bit of a gamble, but worked perfectly. Marco and Claudio were great and helpful at all times. Train service to lucca and pisa was great shops in the town all we needed. Lazy days by the pool and some trips out. Nicely rested!

Summary: We were 6 people for a week and had a nice vacation in this spacious house. We had no car and the walking path to Piazza Al Serchio was beautiful but a little tiring.

Summary: We spend 10 days in Piazza al Serchio. The location combines the best from different worlds. You are close to nature in a beautiful valley. The house belongs to the outskirts of a tiny medieval township, is well kept and equipped, beautifully furnished and stays cool- even on the hottest days. The pool was a blast, if you have small children you will find shady retreats that still are in viewing range of the water. During the night the whole location transforms into a fantasy dreams. Hundred of light-bugs dance through the surrounding foliage while moon lights the valley. We would travel there again!

Summary: We absolutely loved our stay at this stunning traditional property. The house itself was immaculate and well equipped with everything you might need. Marco was a great host despite the language barrier and really wanted us to enjoy our stay. The pizza’s at Marco’s restaurant we excellent. The pool is a great size and our 3 boys loved the fact that it was saline water and not chlorinated. The only downside to this property is the access if you are a bit unsteady on your feet. The path from the village is very steep and slippery when wet. My elderly mum was with us and she definitely would not have gone up and down it. The river road is very bumpy but with careful driving nothing you won’t manage, so don’t let this put you off.

Summary: Fantastic property in lovely setting. River road access is a bit off road but fine once we were used to it. Marco was a very welcoming host and brought us excellent free pizzas on the first night. Good rail service to Lucca and Pisa made exploring easy. We had a great week

Summary: A beautiful house in a beautiful location, the owners of the property, Marco and Claudio, were the perfect hosts, very friendly and helpful. We genuinely did not want to leave for home and would loved to have stayed a few more days. The house, pool and gardens were amazing, the local area had so much to offer and the views were fantastic. The Pizzeria that Marco and Claudio owned was very nice and there pizzas i would say were the best in the area based on the amount of locals coming in for takeaways. Definitely worth another stay in the very near future.

Summary: Marco was a generous host. Surprised us with fresh plums and tomatoes. House is cool in the summer heat. Two covered outdoor eating areas were well used. Lovely lake swimming just north of the town. We had a fantastic week.

Summary: Beautiful villa in a stunning location up in the mountains. The pool area looks out across the valley and has lots of room around it for the kids. The villa has everything you would need for a highly enjoyable holiday. This was our first time in Northern Tuscany and were taken back by the dramatic landscapes. The kids loved the river at the bottom of the property, daily fishing trips and damp building at sun down time. Marco could not have been more hospitable, even making sure we had pizzas on arrival!
