4 Bedroom Cabin in Purlear

Ruffinit has it all! Sitting on top of 2.8 acres, it is in a very private location with nothing but silence around you. Enjoy the long range mountain views from the screened in porch or the oversized deck.
Ruffinit cabin is really not ruffing it! It is extremely comfortable with all the amenities from home including broadband internet. The cabin inside is constructed in beautiful tongue and groove yellow pine and has been furnished and equipped with everything you need for a great vacation. Main floor bedrooms recently got new hardwood floors, some photos may show carpet. The pottery, pictures and knickknack's all go together to give you a very 'homey' feeling.
On this mountain, there is also a fishing pond, beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails and an outdoor pavilion. Please follow all neighborhood posted signs and rules. Renters assume all liability and risk while using neighborhood amenities.
Currently Buck Mountain is experiencing a drought as of 2024 (it takes about 2 years for rain to get to the well). We have had some guest run out of water in the house after taking long showers but is rare as of Oct 2024. Water will regenerate within minutes but long baths are not possible. We also supply the drinking water and water for flushing in case water does run out during your stay. Again it will come back slowly within minutes.

Appalachian Ski Mountain- 25 minutes plan to open 11/22/24 no storm damage

North Wilkesboro Speedway
Samaritan's Purse Offices for Wilkesboro and Boone 30 minutes away for volunteers
Perry Lowe Orchards- open 7 days a week and awesome fall activity! 30 mins away
Alpha and Omega Corn Maze- Fall to the max!- 30 min away
Christmas Tree Farms- 20- 30 minutes away
Gem Mining- 30 minutes

The Lost Wombat is a family restaurant beside the Liberty Theater and is also a Zulpo property. We opened in May 2023 just in time for Merlefest and the Nascar All-Star race. Don't worry about steep curvy roads! This cabin is very easy to get to, driving only 8 miles west of Wilkesboro NC or 15 miles east of Boone NC off of Hwy 421. All of our roads in the neighborhood were spared from any Hurricane Helene damage and are safe to travel. For those coming from Charlotte, our cabin is only an hour and a half away. From the Raleigh Durham area you are under 3 hours!

Summary: The Buck Mountain area itself is very nice. Paved roads, good visibility even at night if you stick to the 22 1/2 speed limit! Roughly 30 minutes away from shops and restaurants in Wilkesboro.The cabin is wonderful - comfortable, clean and bright. The view from the deck and patio is out of this world. Hosts responded to inquiries very quickly.

Summary: I always try to be as honest and thorough as possible in my reviews, no place is absolutely perfect.Positives…Owner seemed very nice, communicated well. Location was excellent, view was perfect, especially at sunset and in a clear night. Easy to get to and quiet. Plenty of space for our group. Seemed to have plenty of towels and blankets.The few negatives we had. It was weird to not have beds made upon arrival, unusual, bit a huge deal. There are plenty of steps, harder on older ppl. FYI. The pool table needs to be trashed, We always look for pool tables but this one is unplayable if you care about that, we tried one game and gave up. A hot tub would be a great addition as a side note. Could use some blinds or curtains for the windows to the SIP, sun was blinding in the evenings. Beds were a little firm for my taste, And no dishwasher, which I hadn’t noticed in the details, and although there seemed to be plenty of pots and pans, utensils ect, there were not enough plates and bowls and we were constantly washing dishes. Two of the lower steps are slightly loose, not dangerous, but first time stepping on them especially while carrying your things in will give you pause. All in all a nice place, beautiful relaxing area, lots of antique shops nearby and plenty of great hiking in the area. I would recommend to most.
