Positive: Fantastic location, especially for people who wish to visit and stamp the public onsens. The private outdoor onsen room was excellent with good amenities, on a clear night you can see many stars.

Negative: The hotel is an enigma. The premium private onsen room was really high quality. However, basic tatami room much less so, and clearly of much lower value than the price difference indicated. For the dining the dishes were generous but a bit on the salty side. If you book probably would recommend the premium rooms for a better overall value.

Positive: This might be the most incredible hotel we’re ever stayed at. The staff were stunningly attentive, helpful, polite, and hospitable. The facilities—reception, elevator, dining rooms, guest room, private Onsen—were stunning. The location was amazing. The yukata, the slippers, the music. Every detail was stunning.

Negative: Nothing. We loved every single thing.

Summary: The best hotel we’ve ever stayed not just Japan but globally.

Positive: The room was very spacious, clean and with tasteful design. The ryokan has an indoor and outdoor onsen which was excellent. The room has many touches of art on display and every corner just looks great! Also be prepared to be greeted by the toilet bowl!

Negative: Nothing, everything was honestly good. But I was told by locals they consider the ryokan to be expensive.

Summary: Most memorable stay in Shibu Onsen town where you are transported into a Studio Ghibli movie!
