Weyanoke Cabin | Sanctuary Creek; a preserved forest retreat

1 Bedroom Cabin in Weyanoke, St Francisville

This is our lovely cabin in the woods, located 20 miles north of St. Francisville, almost to the Mississippi/Louisiana border and about a mile from Bayou Sara. Nestled in the rolling hills of the Tunica Trace, we are amongst some of the best cycling, birding, and hiking in the state. John James Audubon lived and did many of his drawings of birds in this area and it was once home to the Tunica Indians.
Our 41 acres boast a spring fed creek which runs year round through the tumbled down clay, sand, and loess of the toes of the Appalachians. Mixed native hardwood trees support a bevy of local wildlife including owls, woodpeckers, hawks, chipmunks, grey squirrels, coyotes, deer, snakes, bobcats, foxes, raccoons, turkeys, eastern bluebirds, and herons to name a few. If you are lucky, you can witness mushrooms of great variety fruiting when the conditions are right.
The cabin has a large screened in porch, two bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, a loft, modern kitchen, den, A/C, clawfoot bathtub, and outdoor shower. We have hammocks and books available for your downtime enjoyment. There is no television, phone signal is spotty at best, and wifi is unavailable. If you need to make a phone call, you can walk to the road. There are also many beautiful spots to pitch a tent on the land.

Summary: We had an incredible time during our visit. We loved being surrounded by nature without the distraction of technology and there is plenty to enjoy! We splashed around in the creek running through the property, played card games on the gorgeous deck and at night, it turns into a fairy land: dozens of fireflies fluttered around, making our trip seem magical! There were fresh wild flowers in the house when we arrived and everything you need to fix a meal-we were beyond satisfied and didn't want to leave! Huge thank you to Katie for allowing us to enjoy your space. Book your trip here now; you won't regret it!

Summary: This house and surrounding property is really something special. The cabin is surrounded by wooded forrest and a flowing creek. It has multiple destination spots all around the property - 2 fire pit areas, little tree hut, large downed trees perfect for climbing, a creek that is easily walkable in both directions, and a large clearing immediately behind the house for soccer, frisbee or the like. The cabin has 1 bedroom and an open (yet private) loft area with a bed. It is surrounded on 3 sides by a large fan cooled, screened porch with ample seating and hammocks:) Its really a beautiful space, well decorated and clearly loved by the owners. We had a fantastic time - we and our 3 boys (4,5,&6) took a morning and afternoon "hike" up and down the creek each day and they loved it. The rest of the day was spent roaming around searching for perfect walking sticks and building fires and forts. As mentioned this is a very unplugged location - no tv, no wifi, no cell service- (you can get service if you walk out to the road) which is great. Also recommend - > We brought a bluetooth speaker for music - Details: Creek is easily navigable and if you walk to the right for about 200 yards it opens up a bit wider. It was perfect for small stick boat races etc. There are lots of extra blankets and pillows and camping mats - 2 sleeping hammocks and 1 hammock chair There is another area Ms. Susan, the neighbor, called a "moonscape" Its about a 5 minute drive further up the road over the cement bridge - It is a much larger creek (1-2 ft deep) for wading and swimming and stone skipping etc. - lined by a pebble "beach" area. It was a fun day venture for a few hours. The kitchen is well stocked with nice magna lite pots and pans All in all it was a really fabulous place and one of our favorite stays. We are the first to rent this place and treated it with the same love that the owners clearly do in hopes that they continue to share this space with others:)
