Positive: Very convenient access to Sanya, 10min Taxi drive to one of the main night markets. Direct access to the beach with own umbrella & sunbed area, the only one under the plan trees in all of Dadonghai.
Negative: Dadonghai as a whole caters to Russian-speaking tourists. It is more likely to interact with the locals speaking fluent Russian than broken English. All restaurants/bars/tours are in Russian. The beach is very inviting: white sand, crystal-clear water. However swimming is only allowed in small marked areas which by low tide means knee-deep water. If you venture outside the designated areas (as in "go for a swim") the swim-police will yell and harass you incessantly with bullhorns and sirens until you give up and join the penned-in herd. The swimming situation was similar in nearby Yalong Bay beach

Positive: Impressive and comfortable hotel in SanYa. It has a nice swimming pool and it is very close to the beach and to a lively area with beachside bars. The area around the hotel gets crowded every evening with people singing and dancing. I can absolutely believe that it was the hotel where foreign politicians were hosted when in Hainan, since it is that beautiful.
Negative: The wifi did not work with username / password. I could get something using wechat, but I cannot speak Chinese, so I did not click anything so I don't know if the wechat-activated wifi was going to work. Most employees do not speak English.
