Positive: A no-frills, slightly old Ryokan. It does the job well enough, is mostly clean, has a decently-stocked convenience store on sight and a fairly large indoor onsen. Breakfast is not amazing but not bad either. Room size was very good, bed comfy, and all around clean. Accessing Shiga Giant - and from there the rest of the resorts (Ichinose, Yakebi, Okushiga etc.) slopes is very convenient.
Negative: At 3850 Yen, dinner is quite expensive. The Wi-fi is straight useless, you can connect but pretty much not do anything with it. The overall atmosphere is a bit dark and lacks warmth.
Summary: A no-frills experience for a solo traveler who wanted to save money.

Positive: It could accommodate 3 of us with two beds and a large room with futons on tatami mats. The staff was very helpful. There is a store on the property that has snacks and there are food trucks nearby. The breakfast and dinner were good. It was close to the slopes and near the bus stop.
Negative: It was very basic. There is not much in the area if you don’t ski. The food choices are limited.
Summary: The snow in the area was great for skiing and snowboarding

Positive: Location is great and easy to access shuttle bus. Ski out was easy, we couldn't find the access to ski back in to venue?
Negative: The venue is quite tired and in need of some substantial upgrades. The amenity level in the room we had was very dated, with leaking windows and definite upgrade required to bathroom and toilet rooms.
Summary: Shiga Kogen is awesome.
