Saint Omer House | STUNNING VISTA BETWEEN MOUNTAIN AND SEA

4 Bedroom House in Saint Omer, Manaroa

The big red-house is a spacious double-story four-bedroom holiday house at Manaroa, Clova Bay, deep in the middle of the Pelorus Sound. It’s the ideal getaway home for eight, only a hundred metres from the water and with breathtaking sea and mountain views. If you want to go fishing, swimming, walking or simply rest in paradise, this is 'your' spot. If you enjoy nature, peace and a quiet setting, this is also ‘your’ spot.
The property is fully self-contained, comfy and has a 70s vibe; the beds are fresh and fully made up. Basic stores available. It’s big and clean, with a native courtyard and stunning views. Private Internet (restricted, not ideal for streaming movies, etc.) and digital TV are offered. Phone reception is outside or on the beach, depending on the cell device.
A registered boat mooring is available upon request, and a boat launching jetty is located just 200 metres down the road. Shore fishing is pretty good, but fishing from kayaks or boats is even better! Signature catches include snapper, gurnard, blue cod and other species. (Excellent bait fishing for children on the jetty.) Clova Bay is a 25- to 40-minute boat excursion up and into the outer Pelorus Reach, as well as to the coast and Cook Strait, where scuba diving is rewarding. You will also have access to hapuka beds.
So, if all the above appeals to you, this place of amazing natural beauty is where you wish to go. The location is regarded isolated due to its tiny population, yet it might be called semi-remote during the summer months.
Please note:No dogs due to birdlife. No extra people or tents. Outdoor fish cleaning bench. All rubbish to be taken out when you leave. There is now a FREE refuse station ten minutes this side of the Linkwater turn-off: a composter is supplied for food scraps; your host will remove regular household rubbish but all bottles and cans must be taken with you – a fee will apply if left.

Summary: We had a lovely 7 night stay with great fishing until the weather turned. Initially we planned on coming by boat from Havelock, but drove in the end and it took more than 2 hours because of towing the boat. We were glad we had driven as carrying our gear 200m along the road and 100m up the driveway would have been a real mission. There is no dingy with the mooring so you need to bring your own or swim. It is a restful place to sit and do nothing or lots. We visited a Gannet colony, saw seals, and a pod of whales came into the bay. Trudy is a generous owner and was kind enough let us change our booking at the last minute due to sickness. Marion lives next door and offered to give us a wee tour of the interesting cemetery.

Summary: After a few days camping at the near by DOC camp ground the massive two person bath was just what we needed. Great sun, very clean, fantastic kitchen, mud room and outside filleting station added bonuses. The Veiw, the sun and the location are hard to beat. Way better than a resort, even with a couple near by houses the place feels like you are alone. Great little beaches near by. We will be back.

Summary: If you're looking for a gorgeous retreat tucked away in the wilds of Marlborough Sounds, you would be hard-pressed to find something as perfectly sited and accommodating as Trudy's in Clova Bay. We had the honor of being the first guests to stay at her newly-renovated home and it was a delight across the board. Yes, it takes quite a few seemingly-endless winding roads to get there from Havelock, but it's the kind of challenge that rewards you at the end with a setting straight off a postcard. Our kids enjoyed fishing from the dock, interacting with the sheep right outside our front door, and sampling the mussels and other treats that caretaker (and next-door neighbor) Marion and her family so generously provided. Most importantly, it's just perfectly quiet and utterly relaxing. Our three nights simply were not enough. If you're looking to hit the reset button and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Sounds, this is most-definitely a location worthy of your consideration.
