Positive: If I could give ten stars I would! Our stay was amazing! Everything from staff to location to food was great! You can’t beat the location within mountains next to a beautiful river! Onsen facilities were gorgeous! Staff all spoke English perfectly and were extremely thoughtful and kind! They even called me on our way there to make sure we can make it to the dinner!
Negative: The only minor inconvenience was the bedding. It was traditional Japanese futon that felt like sleeping directly on the floor.

Positive: We arrived just before the end of the dinner service, but they let us quickly have our meal. The food was delicious. The staff were very understanding. The outside baths were wonderful, so relaxing and lovely to be beside the river.

Positive: The property is beautiful prettier in person than on Instagram! It’s a classic old stole ryokan so it might not fit the bill if you’re looking for luxury and modernity. If you’re looking for quiet and simplicity (and a rotary phone!!) and a more traditional experience this is it.
Negative: The check out time is 10am but the only shuttle to the train station is at 9:30am and there’s no other way to get back if you miss it. This was kind of confusing because the shuttle does two pick ups a day from the Shinkansen train station. They also closed their saloon and karaoke bar over Covid so there isn’t much to do and it’s very very isolated. More than a night or two may have been too much isolation for us.
Summary: It was a perfect break in our trip to get was from the city and see a very distant side of Japan. Be warned that in the

Negative: The luxury room in the East building needs to be renewed; the fluorescence lighting in the room and around the pools are awful and not appropriate.
