Positive: Great staff - owner Kieren worked very hard to make sure everybody was getting what they wanted from their stay. Comfortable room, with an ensuite bathroom (which I wasn't expecting). Cosy communal areas. A good breakfast was included, and dinner was available for 3000Y per person, which was excellent value. Food was tasty and served buffet style so you could eat as much as you liked. Free shuttle bus to and from the local ski slope, and to other nearby resorts if required. Shuttles to the local train station were also available. Back-country guiding was offered but there was no hard sell. I was expecting the atmosphere to be quite hard core, but it was actually very chilled, and there was no judgement if you didn't want to do the serious stuff. We also did a snowshoe tour along the valley which was beautiful.

Negative: There was a 3% surcharge for paying with a card (which I don't think was advised in advance), so take cash if you want to avoid that. Payment is also possible using Wise.

Positive: Room: First of all, I apologize for leaving the room in a messy state. We 3 friends all stayed in one single room, shared stories and laughter late into the night. Even in the summer, we didn't need a fan or AC. With the windows open, we could hear the river constantly babbling, which made us fall asleep earlier than usual. Breakfast: It was more than enough for our table. The only things I missed were croissants and orange juice. Hope, in the future, you will include other juices too. It would be great to have a variety of options to choose from, as it adds a nice touch to the breakfast experience. Service: Kieren was very helpful and suggested many places. I forgot the name of the woman who greeted us, but she was very friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about making our stay a memorable one. I really appreciate it.

Negative: I thought about it carefully and couldn't find anything I didn't like about it.

Positive: Super friendly staff, thank you so much Nena for giving us the best tips for an unforgettable road trip :). Location is amazing, very close to ropeway with beautiful views. In the middle of beautiful autumn folliage and next to mountain river. Also great starting point for Onsen hopping and waterfall roadtrips. The staff can give the best advice on finding really special onzen :). AND: you can take a most relaxing hot bath at the Tenjin Lodge itself!

Negative: We had a rental car so it was perfect, but if you have to rely on public transport it is difficult to reach and not very easy to travel the area.

Summary: Amazing stay in beautiful Gunma, perfect for mountain trails and Onsen dives.
