2 Bedroom Cabin in Wells

The Dakotais a new, modern, four-season, log-sided cabin on Lake Algonquin in the southern Adirondack mountains. The Yogi and the Dakota were built in 2016 by David and Jennifer Woodward of Wells, NY. The cabins were named after their two dogs they raised for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. My Wife Crystal and I have been guests at both cabins many times throughout the years. David and Jennifer were always the most gracious of hosts which made the experience that much more special.
In 2022 Crystal and I became the new owners of the cabins. We could not be more thrilled to be able to continue to enjoy the cabins and to have the opportunity to share them the with our guests.
We are a family friendly property requiring guests to be a minimum age 25 unless accompanied by a guardian. Dogs are welcome with prior approval. In the spring, summer, and fall, enjoy canoeing, kayaking and fishing using our canoe and kayaks. Paddle up the Sacandaga River or over to Lake Algonquin directly from our property . Our boats are available based on spring and fall weather. Boats are always available from May 15th to October 1st. Our grill is charcoal, just bring your charcoal and lighter fluid and enjoy outdoor cooking! - or just sit back and enjoy the wilderness that is the North Country. Behind the cabin is a large flat area for activities and a fire pit for s'mores and relaxing in the evenings. On a clear night, the stars are amazing!
It's a short walk or drive to the town beach, where you can swim or soak up the sun. Or, explore the many hiking trails in the area, leading up mountains, to waterfalls, or into the solitude of the forest.
In the fall, the leaves are spectacular! There are many beautiful scenic byways you can drive right from our doorstep.
In the winter, enjoy skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, tubing, ice skating and snowmobiling. Hamilton County has some of the best Snowmobiling in NY. Our cabin is directly on the NYS trail system with access to hundreds of miles of groomed, marked snowmobile trails. We also have plenty of parking for your snowmobile trailer.
The first floor features a living room with a leather sectional sofa and a 42"flat-screen television with DIRECTV and a DVD player. The dining room includes seating for six. There is a modern kitchen with a stainless electric stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave oven and coffee-maker. The downstairs bedroom has a queen-sized bed. The bathroom has a bathtub and a washer and dryer. There is a screened porch out the back door, and a full open covered porch out front.
The second floor includes a full bathroom with a shower. The upstairs bedroom has a full-sized bed and twin bunks tucked into an alcove, and a 32" flat-screen television with DIRECTV and a DVD player.
There is W-Fi with high speed internet and a land-line telephone. The cabin is equipped with central heating and air-conditioning.
The cabin is conveniently located on NYS Route 30 and is set back 350 feet from the road, down a paved driveway with a 65' X 105' paved parking area.
We are located 3 hours and 45 minutes from New York City, 4 hours from Boston, 3 hours from Montreal and 90 minutes from Albany.

Summary: This house was perfect for a weekend visit to the area to ski at Gore. The house was comfortable and spacious. Having a bathroom both upstairs and downstairs was really nice, as it was one for each bedroom. There are dog bowls and beds for your furry friend! The house was clean and heated up to a comfortable temperature quickly, even when it was 0 outside. We would definitely come back and stay again!

Summary: Four of us stayed here for a quick snowmobiling weekend trip. The cabin was fantastic, even better than the photos (which already looked great). The owners were very responsive, and very helpful (they had a lot of great recommendations for places to stop / visit on the snowmobile trails). The cabin was right on the trail. Wells Edge Country Store, just down the road (also on the snowmobile trail) was a great place for last minute provisions, and we enjoyed their breakfast sandwiches. Uncle Carl's Coffee (essentially right across the street) was also great. Really enjoyed the coffee, and their pastries and quiches were also quite good. Very conveniently located! We only had two cars, but it was nice that there was plenty of parking. The cabin itself had lots of great hard copy information of things to do, restaurant menus, etc. Long before the weekend, they sent out a digital link to lots of great resources as well. Overall, fantastic hosts, and would definitely stay here again. Thanks!

Summary: This place I really couldn’t rave about enough. John was a great host from check in to check out. The cabin has all the essentials, and I mean for my Fri-Mon stay there was no need to go out for any basic household need. We brought a frozen pizza for our first night and forgot our pizza cutter, but after a quick check there were 2 there.We got like 8”-10”’s of snow Saturday into Sunday and it was completely plowed as soon as it stopped. There’s a reason this place is a 10.0 and I’m happy I got to see why. Thank you for a nice stay on some cold snowy nights.

Summary: The Dakota was a cozy place to stay while we did our first exploration of the Adirondack Park. This is a modern house with a cabin feel. It is well appointed with anything you need for an extended stay. While you could just hang at the property or use the kayaks and canoes to explore the lake and river that you can get to from the property, I would encourage you to go further afield and do some of the hikes that the owners have suggested in their guest book. My daughter and I were only there for the weekend in November, so we only got a taste for the area, and it was too cold for kayaking, but we will definitely be back when it’s warmer. The Dakota will be our home away from home for that trip too

Summary: The house and area were wonderful. The only problem I had was the bed on the first floor. Very hard and uncomfortable. It really needs an update on the mattress. Had to sleep upstairs because of it which can be a problem if you have difficulty climbing stairs. Everything else was great.

Summary: Our recent visit to this property was fantastic. The property was clean and very inviting. Everything we needed was there and the area was great for some easy hiking and enjoying the fall colors. We are already planning next years trip which will definitely be for a longer stay.

Summary: Beautiful property. Owners were very thoughtful in all the extra amenities available at the property, like kitchen & bath supplies, kayaks, life jackets, even bowls and toys for the dog! Every little thing you wish you had brought from home was there. Great recommendations for hikes, stores, and restaurants.

Summary: This cabin was perfect in every aspect. It was clean, comfortable and had all the necessary supplies plus some. The hikes and restaurants suggested by the Owner, were a hit with each of us. The Fall colors were magnificent making our road trip from Niagara Falls and through the Adirondack Mountains a lovely experience.

Summary: Brought the kids for a much needed long weekend get away. I had visited this area this time of year previously with friends and couldn't wait to come back. The cabin and property were great. Quiet, clean, and relaxing. We enjoyed hiking, splashing around Lake Pleasant, lunch at the Speculator Inn, shopping, kayaking, fire pit. Well stocked and plenty board games and movies. Dog bed and toy was a nice touch. 👌
