Positive: The beds were very comfortable, and warm enough. There were tea making facilities. There was hanging space in the wardrobe. Charging points for phones by the beds. Lovely old original beams in the room and an endearing slope to the floor because of the age of the building. Good shower and loo (v small) with a sink in the bedroom.
Negative: There was no extractor fan in the shower/loo to remove steam and smells. There was no written welcome with an explanation of how to order breakfast, options etc, only a dinner menu in a drawer. The coffee machine did not work although we tried to follow the instruction booklet (also found in the drawer). The curtains were missing some hooks so let in light. There's a large gap under the door and light shines through all night (I wedged it with a pillow to try and block it out). The bar is closed until 11am and the door for us to access it, and the way out was locked until then. There is another door but it involves walking along a corridor and down a different staircase. The staff member we checked in with mumbled something about it but neither of us understood so next morning we battled with the locked door until we went looking for another way out. We were with an older couple from another room who hadn't been told anything about this, so they were very worried and wanted to go through an external fire door in order to escape. Luckily they followed us and we did find the way. Unluckily they found stairs quite a challenge and needed to go down and up a flight and then down another flight to finally get there. We all felt there should have been written, clear instructions to explain which door to use, and how to reach it before 11am actually in each room. There was a step down into the room which is not highlighted in anyway and one of us fell down it when entering the room with a suitcase. There was only a cleaner there in the morning so I have no idea how or if you could order breakfast, no information in the room. I was expecting some noise because it's a pub, but we were directly over the bar and could clearly hear the TV, loud music and talking until 11.15pm and 11.30pm, and loud talking after that until midnight. I would have appreciated a heads up when booking.
Summary: Good in parts, not so good parts can be easily fixed. Lacking in customer service.

Positive: We loved everything, we are from the states so it was the experience we were looking for. Only downside was our booking said breakfast included but we were told when we got there it wasn’t. Not a big deal because we wanted to sleep in and not be pushed to get up for breakfast
Summary: We had a wonderful stay
