Our holiday villa El Cactus in La Herradura, Costa Tropical, Spain - A home from home and only a short drive to the beach and village.
El Cactus is situated in an established residential urbanization on the outskirts of La Herradura and has the advantage of its own driveway for safekeeping of cars. It has a beautiful garden and enticing areas to escape and relax. Having its own pool means that you are completely independent for a quiet escape from the world but the life of the village is only a stone’s throw away! In fact our house is as an approximate 30 minute walk or an easy 10 minute drive from La Herradura village.

Summary: This house is everything it says to be. Great outdoor area, where you can spand an entire day. The house is close to the Beach and towns. Definately recommendable and a place we would like to return to.

Summary: Well equipped, comfortable, quiet and private. House stays fairly cool even at 30°C so no real need to use the aircon. Garden and Pool are great with lots of places to relax in and out the sun. Walked into town with no problem, a little harder on the way back, best take a touch in the evening. great comunication from the owners. we had a great time and hope to return again in the furture.

Summary: When we arrived late on Friday we easily found the keys and welcomed the fresh fruit and water that waited for us inside. The next morning we explored the house, garden and pool and we found it exactly as written in the description and in the recommendations. We would like to especially point out the comfortable beds and pillows. We all slept wonderfully. This was basically the only time we spent time in the house due to the perfect weather. The only thing that surprised us was the noise from the traffic coming over from the motorway. We slept with open windows and no air condition and could hear the traffic pick up during rush hour in the early mornings. I do not think that this should be a problem when the windows are close and A/C is switched on. La Herradura is compared to neighboring tourist cities small and relaxed. The beach is more rocky and next time we would bring some "swimm-shoes" to have an easier access to the water. But on the other hand you do see more fish when snorkeling. (Try the small beach at the far end of La Herradura, where you pass the fantastic restaurant directly on the beach and follow the street around the corner for about 100m.) We explored the area around La Herradura and even did the 3.5 km walk to the Beach of Death, which we really enjoyed. Next time we plan a visit in this area we will book tickets to Alhambra in Granada prior to our arrival. No tickets were available when we checked online for none of the 10 days we stayed in Andalusia. To summarize our trip: We enjoyed every minute due to the perfect weather, friendly people and the very welcoming house with pool.

Summary: We had a lovely stay in this villa. The location was ideal, as it is away from hustle and bustle of La Herradura, but close enough to beaches and restaurants. Private, relaxing, great views from the terrace.

Summary: We had a fantastic time at Vanessa and Jane’s house in La Herradura. The villa was spacious, the pool inviting and the location perfect. Sitting on the patio looking at Herradura Bay was very relaxing. The communication with the owners from booking, during the stay and on leaving was excellent. We especially welcomed the fruit, wine and water as we arrived. If you want a villa that has everything, that is in a great location, with Nerja and Almuñécar on your doorstep come here. Thanks for a great holiday and we hope to come again.The Olds family, Cardiff.

Summary: We had a great time staying at El Cactus. It is a well equipped property in the hills overlooking La Herradura and is a perfect size for a family of 4. There is a wonderful pool area, which our kids loved. There is also a lovely terraced area with seating, which has a great view over the bay - a nice spot for an early morning coffee or a chilled beer as the sun is setting. Whilst the property gets the sun for most of the day, there are plenty of shaded areas and there is air con in most of the rooms. There are loads of really nice beaches nearby (La Herradura, Nerja and Cala de Canuelo) and great places to eat and drink in La Herradura (some of our favourites - the main square in the old town, Terramar on the main promenade and Rebalaje at the far end of the beach). You're also not too far from Granada (the Alhambra is a must), Malaga (the old town is definitely worth a visit) and Frigiliana. Jane was great to deal with in the run-up to the holiday and whilst we were there. Jane's help and assistance was greatly appreciated. Would definitely want to return to El Cactus.

Summary: We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at the El Cactus villa . It was perfect for our needs for a relaxing,peaceful ' getaway from it all' type holiday. It was actually our honeymoon and we found the villa a very romantic location.There was a bottle of wine and some fresh fruit waiting for us on our arrival which was thoughtful. The villa was the ideal size,very homely , spacious without being too large. The gardens are lovely,with good views of the mountains and also of La Herradura town and beach below. Set out on many levels the garden enables you to always find either some Sun,or shade,or just some peace and solitude.The swimming pool is a good size and was kept lovely and clean with a couple of visits each week from the pool guy. The owners even arranged for a taxi to meet us at Malaga airport when we arrived which was really helpful. We would recommend that a car is probably a good idea to have if staying here as the villa is located on a steep incline and is about a 25 minute walk from the nearest shop,but we were aware of this when we booked .Again the owners kindly sent us a map of the most direct walking route and we completed the walk nearly every other day .In the heat of the early afternoon walking back up the hill was quite an effort but as I say we knew of this prior to booking. We found it very difficult to fault the Villa .My partner would have preferred a heated swimming pool as the water was very cold but as we visited in October this was to be expected as although the days were mostly warm (20 to 25 degrees) the night's were cool so the water wouldn't have a chance to warm up and stay warm. Again this was known before we booked and didn't spoil our stay. For those booking during the height of the Spanish summer this would not be an issue anyway. Overall we can highly recommend El Cactus as a great holiday location for couples or small families.

Summary: We really enjoyed our 9 days at El Cactus. It is well equipped and very comfortable, even supplying us with pool towels which is a brilliant idea and was much appreciated. El Cactus is like a home rather than a holiday house. The garden and pool area is well kept and not at all overlooked. Would thoroughly recommend, communication with owners is very good.

Summary: What can I say.....AMAZING!!! The villa had absolutely everything you could need. A well equiped kitchen, towels etc. The welcome bottle of wine and fruit basket was amazing. There was even a chilled bottle of water for us to enjoy after a very hot journey. David who looks after the villa was very attentive and very responsive to my texts when I needed assistance. Very clean villa. The air con was a welcomed bonus. The walk into town was ok for us but if you have smaller children then a car is a MUST. Vanessa was amazing and arranged our taxi transfers for us. She also provided me with a taxi number for us to use while we were there. We has the best holiday ever! Thank you so much xxxx
