Positive: I absolutely loved my stay at Wayalailai, by far my favourite place I stayed while in the yasawa’s. If you are looking for a resort that doesn’t feel too commercial, has a homely feel and staff that make you feel incredibly welcome, look no further. Room was clean and I was in a 4 person dorm with only one other, bed had mosquito nets and a private bathroom and shower. The beach is beautiful and the reef is amazing for snorkelling with a platform you can swim to and relax on. Food was buffet style and catered to everyone, the afternoon tea was a lovely touch. I really enjoyed the fundraiser at the village and getting to know the locals, I was made to feel so welcome. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a budget place to stay while not missing out on any of the beauty the Yasawas have to offer. Thankyou so much!

Positive: Waya Lailai Eco Haven was honestly an experience I’ll never forget. The staff were just incredible — so warm, patient, and genuine. They treated everyone with so much respect and made us feel like part of their community from the moment we arrived. Even the little things they did, like a smile or stopping for a quick chat, made such a huge difference and really stuck with me. The island itself is absolutely stunning — crystal-clear water, lush green mountains, and such a peaceful vibe. The activities were amazing too: snorkeling with reef sharks, fishing at sunset, climbing the mountain for those epic views, learning on the medicine walk, or just kicking back in a hammock soaking it all in. Between the people, the adventures, and the beautiful surroundings, it felt like the perfect mix of connection, relaxation, and fun. I can’t wait to go back one day.
Negative: Honestly, the only thing I didn’t like was the fact that I didn’t book one of the cabins right on the water — big mistake on my part, haha! Next time, that’s definitely where I’ll be staying. I can honestly say there wasn’t anything I didn’t like about my stay. Every moment was either fun, meaningful, or both. I had such a great time with all the activities, but more than that, I learnt so much from the people and the experiences. It wasn’t just a holiday — it was something that left a real impact. I walked away feeling like a different person, more connected, grounded, and grateful.

Positive: The community was very friendly. Their welcome was lovely. There are frangipani, hibiscus, mango trees, coconut palms, butterflies and much more. The beach is calm and quiet and perfect for relaxing in a hammock. Swimming and snorkelling is at your doorstep. We learnt about Fijian culture and customs and enjoyed a kava ceremony. The food was nourishing and tasty. Our hosts treated us as friends and we enjoyed meeting fellow travellers. Moia reef was full of marine life and being in the water with reef sharks was super fun. The sunrise walk from 5am was strenuous and well worth getting up early. Thanks Nassau for taking us to the reef and up the mountain. Attending Sunday church in the village was a blessing. Thank you for welcoming us and the children's singing was delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights at Wayalailai. Thank you.

Positive: Genius loci and community is what makes this place so special. This place is run by local community and you feel very much welcome and taken care off. Tasty meal, hamacks on the beach, breathtaking scenery… it has all of it :) nice talks with locals and fellow travellers - which you do not have in “standard” resorts. This really was one big Family :). House-Reef is nice with a Good visibility. Reef Shark trip is a must do experience.
Negative: Just to be sure - all the following things we did not really mind, since THE feeling of the place and people was so great. I mention it for consideration of other travellers so they know what to expect. The place is a bit dated, power is on for few hours a day, wifi sometimes works, sometimes doesnt, water is rather lukewarm. If you can not survive this, rather choose “standard resort”. Otherwise we strongly recommend to come here and experience a bit of not-so-much touristy Fiji

Positive: The hike up the summit at sunset was excellent and guide was lovely and caring. View out at mealtime beautiful. Hosts made us feel welcome and remembered our names so a very personal experience. Banana leaf bure roof was beautiful in our replacement bure as planned one was being repaired.

Positive: An extraordinarily beautiful, peaceful and friendly eco retreat, owned and run by locals in a laid back, open and warm manner. Waya Lai Lai is a perfect holiday destination, especially if you want to avoid the „corporate“ feel of some of the other resorts. As for activities: Snorkeling with the sharks is extraordinary and the hike to the top of the island rock is absolutely worth it.
