Pedernal Casita at Abiquiu Lake is one room (420 square feet) that includes kitchen facilities, WC & shower; double wall bed; work, reading and savoring spaces.
Studio/casita ideal for a professor on sabbatical, or an artist, scholar, writer, hiker who wants quiet and seclusion and opportunities to design adventures. The Murphy bed is a regular double with eleven inch gel-foam mattress, so if this space fits your style, the casita can accommodate two adults.
See the breathtaking views through new designer windows or by sitting outside on one (or all) of three open portals (porch/patio). North: Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu Lake [charcoal broiler on this side]. East flag stone patio shows northern views and toward Jemez Mts and Santa Fe (my house in foreground) [Outdoor eating table and chairs are here]. South: Cerro Pedernal, Polvedara, and nearby mesas. (great winter sun). Movable chairs for your preferences.
These same wondrous views can be seen on hikes and by driving. We're in the midst of two National Forests (Carson & Santa Fe), BLM land and two Wilderness Areas (Chama River Canyon & San Pedro Parks Wilderness areas.) Geological, historical, archeological wonders.
Elevation of casita about 6500 feet. Pedernal is just under ten thousand feet. Dry, sunny climate.
Within less than an hour's drive you can visit the Benedictine Monastery Christ in the Desert and Islamic mosque and educational center Dar el Islam. Various local churches and other worshiping groups welcome visitors.
90 minutes from Santa Fe. Travel north on US Hwy 84, through village of Abiquiu; in 6 miles turn left on NM Hwy 96. Two miles off Hwy on graded gravel private drives. Area is named Piedra Lumbre or Shining Stone. Others call it La Joya. Address not findable on Google maps. We'll send you directions after you make your reservation.

Summary: I love this casita! This is the second time I have had an extended stay and this place is heavenly. Wonderful views, solitude and quiet make it my perfect retreat. And Beth is truly a great host, quick to respond to any of my needs. That is why I’ll come back again and again.

Summary: 4 nights enjoying quiet stars, watching magical sunsets, sunrises, soaking up vivid daylight, and even having coffee in a little snow shower. This spot showcases all the majesty and light play of some of NM's most incredible views. It will make you want to write and paint. The Casita is remote, well-appointed, and filled with the great energy of many happy guests and the deep history that surrounds it. Bring all the food and drink you want while you are there. Follow Beth's directions exactly. Plan a hike around the lake. Check out Ghost Ranch and the Rio Chama Wilderness area. Also, keep things simple and leave lots of time to sit and stare out all the windows and at mesmerizing views from every porch.

Summary: Beth, owner and great host, went above and beyond as a host! I must tell this part for sure: we arrived in Abiquiu and got lost because it was near midnight. Beth drove to Abiquiu, in the middle of the night to escort us to the Casita. That is what I call "Above and Beyond "! The Casita we stayed in was perfectly located for fabulous views. Words can't begin to describe the Beauty of what we saw, before the snow fall and after! Beth: This is a personal Thank You to you from myself and Carrie! Again, the beauty of the scenery was breath taking! Such a great way to welcome in 2023! Oh, the Casita was filled with a great collection of books that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. Summary: This is our second time here and it is perfect for us. A double bed, kitchen, view, lovely host, quiet, so very quiet are all boxes we wanted to tick off. This does it for us. We live on a busy street in Denver, so having silence to enjoy is a big deal to us. Host has her own art in the casita to enjoy. Such a treat.

Summary: The two of us and our dog had a great time at the property. The kitchen was fully equipped with utensils and cookware. The building is actually much larger on the inside than is reflected in the pictures. We had a great time hiking around the area and driving around the area exposed us to some really beautiful scenery. Beth was very pleasant and responsive. We invited her over for dinner cooked on the provided grill and had a nice conversation one evening. Would definitely recommend. Cell reception can be a bit spotty as you drive around the area, but we always had a full signal while on the property.

Summary: This is a semi-remote setting with exceptional views and a very accommodating host who lives next door and is available for any needs you might have. We enjoyed sharing our two doggies with Beth, and she was very generous with emergency food supplies and doggie brushes. There are small towns nearby, and our host thoughtfully left maps and instructions to find local hiking trails. But the show-stealer was the view - both front and back at the cottage. The weekend we stayed there were thunderstorms galore - what a magnificent show! We enjoyed sitting on the futon facing the big picture window looking out at Abiquiu Lake - just mesmerizing. The bed is a fold-up Murphy bed; very comfortable. Everything you could want for cooking and coffee/tea making is readily available. No cell service for us, but the internet was strong. All-in-all, it was fabulous, and we will return soon.

Summary: The casita is so much more than the photos…with amazing landscapes and views in every direction, a huge sky filled with stars at night and a host who provided not only help when needed, but made me feel so welcome. I slept better than I have in years, painted, hiked, cooked and hope to spend more time here in the future. My pup, Nel, enjoyed her stay too! The casita is well equipped and beautiful.
