Positive: I loved how luxurious the outside of the hostel felt with a beautiful pool and jacuzzi and loads of hammocks and greenery everywhere. The staff were friendly and funny and helped when we needed it. It was so close to Semuc champey and they provided transport to and from Lanquin on arrive and exit. They had so many animals!
Negative: The bathrooms were the main let down of this hostel with them being outdoors bathrooms with rarely any hot water. Because the outside looks so luxurious these bathrooms were definitely a let down. In addition many of the shower window curtains weren’t big enough to cover the whole window so it didn’t feel like you had privacy. This hostel didn’t allow any outside food which was disappointing as their menu has limited options and it feels like a way for them to squeeze money out of you. The beds didn’t have curtains! They should definitely add this as that makes a huge difference with privacy! Other than going to Semuc Champey, there wasn’t much else in the area to do so I would not recommend staying longer than 3 nights.
Summary: A mix of luxurious and basic but overall worth the stay

Positive: - The location is truly a blessing. How convenient to just be able to walk to Semuc Champey without needing a tour. - Beautiful location, the pool and views are just insane. - Common areas are so complete and comfortable to stay in. Hammocks, many sofas... makes it easy to be social! - The staff was all very, very nice, everyone I talked to there was extremely pleasant. - The shuttle service to and from Lanquin is soooooo appreciated!!
Negative: - The dorms must be some of the WORST I've seen in a long time... neither wi-fi nor phone signal reaches it. And if you decide to do a bit of a phone detox in bed and maybe read instead... nope, you can't, there is no personal lights and the main light in the room is quite dim and only reaches a couple of bunks. Not mine, it was dark. That forced me to be outside of my dorm for everything but sleep, and I don't like not having the option to be on my own. There are also no personal fans, just one in the room, that, again, only reaches a few beds. Luckily it got a bit cooler at night, but not sure about other times of the year. MOST IMPORTANTLY, the bed height make absolutely no freaking sense, with even some of the bottom bunks requiring going up steps, and the ones at the top have pretty bad ladders (really just pieces of wood). Then there's some even higher up, nearly at the ceiling, that almost require you climb over people, it was just so weird. I had specifically requested a bottom bunk because I have ankle issues and they put me at this highest one... after a travel day of nearly 11 hours, I almost broke down crying and luckily the lady at the reception was nice enough to change it for me. It just sucked because I had requested this prior and there was a LOT of bottom bunks available so it didn't make sense to me. Also note that there are no keys to the rooms. - Food is priced higher than usual, taking advantage of the isolation. - One day they simply forgot to put in my order and had me waiting over an hour for food. - I found it weird that when looking at reviews the owner answered people with negative experiences in a really aggressive manner, that is never a good sign for me and I wish I had seen this before staying there, it made me feel uncomfortable. I ended up leaving a day early unfortunately, as I really wanted to love this place and was excited, but when it's just enough things that become an inconvenience they add up.
Summary: Wanted to love it, but those dorms man...

Positive: Greengos has a great location only walking distance from semuc champey. The pool is lovely and very clean. The rooms are very basic (we stayed in a hut). Would be great to have some hooks to hang your clothes etc. The restaurant ist great and food is delicious.
Negative: Sadly the music is on all the way from morning till evening and is pretty loud so can be a bit annoying if you want to chill by the pool and they blast the same playlist of 80s music. We asked the staff if they could at least play some spanish music etc but apparently the owner doesnt want this….. It’s quite pricey for what you get and the prices of food are also quite expensive for guatemala. As there is nothing else in the area you are kinda stuck to eat there. They also forbin snacks because apparenrly insects but then sell crisps themselves….

Positive: Best place to stay in Semuc Champey. Very clean and the staff are awesome. I would have stayed here longer if I could have.
Negative: The internet was a bit spotty in the room but great up in the main area.
Summary: Stay here in the private cabin if you can.

Positive: The facilities were great, lots of space for everyone to spread out. A pool table, lots of games on offer, a big pool downstairs. The Semuc champey pools are only a short walk away which was nice. The shashuka dish was amazing - probably the only dish I ordered several times because it was so delicious.
Negative: Otherwise, the food was okay but could be improved, the avocado toast was on a burger bun which was weird and didn’t taste like fresh avocado. The waffles tasted sugary like out of a pre bought package. The granola yogurt came with frozen fruit although they could use fresh papayas or bananas to make it ten times better. The fresh fruit shakes were icy instead of creamy when made with milk. Once they master the food I would highly recommend this place.
Summary: Overall a great stay

Positive: Exceeded expectations. Very cool design and layout, and somewhere to chill out in the sun, drink, socialise, and hangout in or by the pool. The food is also exceptionally good given the remote location. Perfect location if you want to be close to the entrance for Semuc Champey. Highly recommended, but note that this is a younger + social hostel rather than somewhere for older travellers looking for peace and quiet or families with kids.
Negative: They need to make the shared bathrooms + showers more comfortable and private for guests. The tab system works well, but mistakes do creep in, so it's best to keep a record on your phone as your order. Also, they really should accept card payments without imposing a 6% charge - the highest we saw in Guatemala.
Summary: Exactly what we wanted in Semuc

Positive: Loved staying here! We chose based on the location to Semuc Champey and really pleased we did! The room we stayed in was plenty big enough with a large shelf and a storage box. The fan was enough to keep us cool at night. The shower was cold but you didn’t need a hot one! Staff were really friendly and helpful. Pools were welcome and the hammocks a dream to laze about in.
Negative: Would have liked more menu variety given it’s basically the only place for food.
Summary: Stay here!

Positive: Had fears this may be a bit of a party hostel which seemed correct when arrived in the middle of a pool party with music blasting. However that was a one off and all the other nights were bit more relaxed. Always quietened down by around 11pm The most amazing location in the middle of the jungle 15min walk to the pools, perfect. Loved the style of the place. Pretty clean and bathrooms decent considering the location. Arriving in the back of the truck great fun!!
Negative: Food limited in choice and very western in style, not great value for money but good quality. Mainly under 30's when I was there so not too sociable but not a big deal for me personally. Staff could be bit unattached and not that engaging.
