A lovely, peaceful location set within the walls of a beautiful and atmospheric Medieval house, right on the banks of the river Orbieu.
The house is located such that you can easily be part of nearby activities or enjoy quiet relaxing time on the largest terrace in the village! There is the possibility of direct access out to the riverside and is just a few steps from the covered market square at the very heart of the village.

As the river trickles by why not sit drinking your chilled glass of local wine on the terrace whilst watching the sun slowly setting over the hills opposite.....You might even strike lucky & spot the local heron or a Kingfisher swooping past & if you come at the right time of year, you can even be lulled to sleep by the mating calls of the local frogs - & we don't mean the human kind!
We have created our Ramparts & Riverside Gite within the original rampart walls of this atmospheric listed village.
It's a great spot for those wishing to "get away from it all" .
The apartment is on the ground floor with a couple of steps once inside.
Accessed through the central cobbled courtyard. Terracotta floors combine with clean white washed walls with carefully chosen antique furniture, accessories & unique art. We have aimed to create a space in which you would feel comfortable & relaxed.
The bedroom is on the riverside so you can fall asleep to the gentle sounds of the water trickling by...... There is a large double bed (180x200cm) or 2 singles, if preferred. Good, comfortable mattresses with high quality pure cotton linens. These will be supplied if you are a traveller from overseas but if you are travelling from within France I request that you supply your own sheets and towels.
There is an equipped kitchen and a dining space for 4,both inside and outside on the balcony, so you can invite other holiday makers you might meet to share a meal.
Lagrasse is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and the scent of pine, thyme and rosemary wafting from the surrounding hills. It is particularly famous for its 8th Century Abbey and the many cultural events hosted there. It is perfectly located for you to explore the wild and beautiful countryside, the Cathar Castles, the Canal du Midi, the Citadel at Carcassonne, the Mediterranean beaches, the Pyrenees and is only two hours from the Spanish border. Swim in the river, go for a leisurely walk, a bike ride, sample oysters freshly plucked from the sea in Leucate, or simply relax & watch the sun go down.
The house is located such that you can easily be part of nearby activities or enjoy a quiet, relaxing time on the balcony overlooking the river. There are several excellent restaurants, a couple of bars, a baker, Pharmacy, Post Office, 2 doctors, a newsagent & numerous local artisan shops and galleries.
Linen & towels are included if travelling from overseas. Hairdryer & iron also provided.
Check-in from 4pm. Check-out 10am

Off-site parking facilities costing 18€ for a week are only 3 minutes from the house.
You will be asked to complete and sign a booking form.
During high season a 7 night stay is specified but please feel free to contact me if you have different requirements. It may be possible to accommodate you.

Summary: What more can I say? Myself and my partner booked this apartment for a few days of relaxation and it was just perfect. The apartment has everything you could need and is beautifully laid out. The balcony is perfect for sitting in the sun and reading a book, and watching the birds fish in the river. The river below is perfect for an afternoon swim, and the next village down the road has a bigger deeper swimming spot which I highly recommend. We will most certainly be coming back, we could not have asked for a more perfect spot.

Summary: We stopped in the one bedroomed 'Ramparts and Riverside' apartment for a week in July. The apartment had looked lovely on the website and even exceeded our expectations when we saw it in person. It was decorated and furnished beautifully throughout and was a very special place to stay. We loved having breakfast (fantastic pastries available from the nearby boulangerie) and many of our evening meals sat out on the little terrace, our only company being the swallows flying over head and the sounds of frogs in the river we overlooked. Lagrasse is a picture postcard French village, old stone houses and cobbled streets, set by a river dominated by an abbey, with medieval bridges crossing it. It was nice to just step out of the house in the evening and go for a meal in one of the excellent nearby restaurants or just buy an ice cream and take a stroll along the river. You could easily spend all your time just relaxing in the village or, like us, you could explore some of the many nearby interesting towns and tourist sights (far too many to fit into the week we had there). If you have a car with you there is plentiful free parking in a car park a couple of minutes walk from the apartment. If you are looking to holiday in a lovely area of France and want to stop in a beautiful apartment, then look no further and book this one.

Summary: We loved our stay unfortunately cut short. Full Latin Mass a la Vatican 1 in the monastery is a marvelous experience. Restaurants were not super but passable. House wine quite delicious at La cocotte Felèe though. If you are arriving late access can be tricky. We would love to return although not in high season - I suspect Lagrasse is a bit of a honey pot and the thought of lots of tourists on "our" bridge too much to bear.
