James Creek House | Peaceful, Beautiful Home, Lake Raystown, Pets OK, Kayaks Available

2 Bedroom House in James Creek

This beautiful, quiet property is adjacent to the Raystown Lake Federal Lands* and in between the Marina and Resort areas. We constantly try to improve the property, and in 2018 we extended the all-seasons room to the deck, making a large outdoor deck area! We added a fire pit and a new, larger, hot tub! Stroll down a private (no homes front the land), quiet country lane to a quiet entrance to the lake. You can hear the birds singing and the fish leaping out of the water! This is a great place for kayaking, fishing, or playing in the water. (We can rent up to 4 kayaks upon request, in cooperation with another owner, so we must charge an additional fee. You must transport to the water.) The lakeside is also a perfect place for a private picnic or to gaze at the stars.
Just one mile down the road is the Aitch boat launch and fishing pier. A wonderful view of the tree-covered mountains surrounds you. Public guided boat tours are available at the Marina and Resort areas.
You will truly enjoy the smart HD TV in the living room, the regulation-sized (7') AMF pool table, and the 6-person hot tub.
The master bedroom on the main floor has a queen bed and a large master bath w/ oversized Jacuzzi (non-jetted) tub, separate shower, walk-in closet, and Kohler fixtures. This master bedroom has a sliding glass door onto the deck with a beautiful view of the federal lands and the neighbor's pond where you can frequently find a blue heron looking for fish. (We do not have a direct view of the lake, very few lake properties do, which keeps the lake experience from the water pristine - no private docks are permitted on the federal land surrounding the lake.)
The main floor has a dining room & living room w/ gas fireplace. The modern kitchen has every convenience you need including an island w/ a Jenn-Air grill & gas range unit, a side-by-side refrigerator, built-in microwave, built-in oven, dishwasher, & garbage disposal. We also supply a drip coffee maker, rice cooker, crock-pot, and other kitchen small appliances. The laundry room and a half bath are also on the main floor. Grocery delivery is offered locally by instacart: https://www.instacart.com/grocery-delivery/pa/near-me-in-huntingdon-pa. (Zip is 16657.)
The second-floor loft contains two queen size beds and overlooks the kitchen and pool table room. There is a separate floor AC unit, ceiling fan, and floor fan in the loft to keep the air circulating. It has a full-size bathroom with a large standup shower.
There is a screened-in 3 seasons room w/ glass sliding-door entrances from the kitchen, the pool table room, and the master bedroom. It is absolutely lovely out there, and you have a nice view of the pond, which frequently boasts of bird activity. You will hear the birds singing all day, and you will frequently be able to watch the barn swallows careen just above the grass while they feed.
This home has a heat pump, central air, ceiling fans, skylights & nice attached 26’ x 26' garage.
Please note that the pipeline that was installed recently that runs under the lake also went through our property and severely damaged our landscaping, and the emerald ash borer damaged our trees. We are working to replace all, but it will take a few years as I will NOT use herbicides on the property for your safety!

What Our Guests say 500 + Reviews

Summary: A quiet place with a lovely view and plenty of space. Comfy beds, great lighting, well equipped kitchen, and my two little ones loved the high seating options. The carpet is divine! If you have a brave toddler, you will need to keep up one on one attention, because the house is not baby safe.

Summary: There were 4 adults staying in this home. Upon arrival the home seemed like a beautiful place for our stay however as we settled in we noticed there were many discrepancies with the listing. This included inaccurate pictures of the furniture. The patio furniture was filthy, the BBQ grill was a flat top covered in standing water and rust so we were unable to use it. The freezer did not freeze and the dishwasher was sub-par, unable to properly clean and wheels missing from the racks. There were no clean sponges for washing dishes. It was a great place for stargazing. There is no "all seasons" room as advertised - screens missing and one section was a pull down shade. The 2-car garage had no room for our car but luckily we did not get snow over the holiday. The upstairs shower produced lukewarm water on a slow stream. The level one bedroom headboard was full of cat scratches and not the same as pictured. The highlight of booking this house was the pool table and hot tub. Pool table was great. Hot tub left 3 of the 4 of us with a terrible hot tub rash which is caused by a bacteria. The hot tub was clearly not clean or treated with chemicals. We reached out to the host after our stay when we all noticed the rash pop up and let her know and she got defensive demanding a full medical report. She was rude in her response which left me to leave an honest review as I had let her know I was trying my best to give her an opportunity to resolve our complaints.

Summary: This rental was perfect for our group. The house was comfortable for four adults and had all of the amenities we needed. The setting was beautiful and offered us some peace and a break from everything. We walked down to the lake one day and also explored a nearby cemetery. We also got to watch the recent aurora From the back yard. Would recommend this place to others.

Summary: Stayed in this gem for three days to play golf with the guys and couldn't have found a better place! House was clean and quiet and offered us some extra amenities such as a pool table to have some more fun in the evenings and a hot tub for those sore muscles from all the extra swings on the courses! Owners were very nice and available for anything we needed including allowing us early check in on Day 1.. would recommend this home for families , friends stay or weekend getaways! A great place! Summary: The air conditioning stopped working on day 3 so I contacted the owner -- whose husband responded immediately. He told me that the aircon coils had probably frozen so we should shut off the air con and wait at least 3 hours before turning it on again. It was already 80 degrees in the house. When I told him that we had 2 senior dogs that needed to be in a cooler temperature, he told me that he was 2 hours away and "what do you want me to do about it"? Normally, if something is not working, you send someone to fix it. The 4 seasons room had screening missing -- we contacted the owner on the first day to alert them, and she sounded suprised, but did nothing to rectify the situation-- so we had mosquitoes and bugs in the 4 season room the whole time. I understand that stuff happens in rentals, but the owners were less than responsive and actually quite rude in their response. They said that we should never have put the temperature below 74 degrees -- that central aircon shouldn't go below 74 degrees. (???) They never checked back to see if the aircon was working again. Don't waste your money -- go somewhere else -- that actually has access to the lake, doesn't have 6 foot black snakes trying to get onto the deck (yup... a 6-foot black snake)...and owners that have a better customer service approach. We are responsible renters, all over 50 years old, and have never been treated so rudely before.

Summary: We visited for two nights for an anniversary get away. The house was private, the inside was very clean, and the owners were responsive to questions. I thought we might not have enough to do, but as it turned out, two days really wasn't enough time to be able to do everything we wanted. We weren't able to find the water though- either the neighbors pond or the private lake access, so that was a little frustrating, but if we had a truck that could have hauled rental kayaks or had our own boat, there is a boat launch just down the street, which was very nice. We weren't able to get to go out on the water at all, because all of the boat rental places located on the water wouldn't answer the phone, and the websites showed boat rentals were booked for weeks ahead of time, so plan ahead if you want to enjoy Raystown lake. Unfortunately, due to severe illness in the family and the looming threat of having to cancel, we were unable to book boat rentals that far out, and we had no way to haul the owners kayaks down to the boat launch. If you can plan a trip about a month in advance, this would be a great place to stay. It was more affordable than most rentals and very nice. Overall, we'd do it again, but be better prepared with boat rentals, packed lunches, etc., but I highly recommend the property and the hosts. The firepit didn't work night 1, but the owner helped to troubleshoot. Night 2 the hot tub wouldn't come on. If that happens, check the breaker switch. Thats all it was!
