Positive: Ocean view rooms good size, shower rooms good size. Beautiful beach. Staff generally helpful & friendly. Calypso bar welcoming & fair entertainment.
Negative: Quality, variety & presentation of food at buffets poor. Similar poor experience at restaurants. Same options at lunch & dinner, mainly fast food in nature. Pools & area small & not welcoming. Outdoor area cramped & overcrowded. Hotel is tired and needs maintenance. Lot of scams for tipping. Staff wanted tips for setting up beds on beach & for Shuttle bus. Rooms not cleaned till late afternoon & housekeeping forgetful about replacing coffee, water & toiletries. Overall poor value for money & Wouldn't go back.

Positive: Overall, staff and management of the Rui were professional and did their best to make our stay relaxing and enjoyable after a bad start upon arrival.
Negative: When we booked the room through Booking.com for the Rui, it noted the following features: Standard Suite Special with facilities noted for that room having a terrace and a sea view. we were given a room with no terrace and no sea view! Hotel management told us they had no rooms available and that the room we selected via Booking.com was the room they gave us. Rui management noted that they were not responsible for what Booking.com stated in our purchase and that per their records our booking for the Standard Suite did not come with a terrace and a sea view. We then had to downgrade or room for a junior suite, with a small terrace and a partial sea view, and were told to sign a waiver form and did not receive a discount for the downgrade per Rui hotel policy. This felt very unfair because we fully paid upon arrival only to be sent to a room that did not match our booking and had to downgrade to a smaller room with no tub and a partial terrace and partial sea view, and Rui blaming Booking.com (i.e. saying if we would have booked directly with them, our experience would have been different). We ended up staying for duration in the downgraded room with a bitter sweet feeling and from my perspective do not think I will be using Booking.com in the future for any of my vacations - especially if this allegation of falsely advertising a room's amenities and facilities which we experienced is actually the case.

Negative: Waited an hour for room service sandwich! Some staff looked at you as you approached them as if to say "what do you want" without actually saying it. Had to ask twice for minibar to be restocked & toilet to have bleach put in it. Attacked by seagulls every lunchtime outside.
Summary: Fell short of other RIU Palaces around the world.
