Positive: Nice location close to the Sinharaja entrance and good birding spots, a calm place near the river and a decent base for exploring the area.. The property itself is quite pleasant and has a lot of potential. Good breakfast and nice local dinner options (excellent rice and curry). Overall good stay with minor but noticeable issues that should be addressed by the owner.

Negative: The manager tried to add a 10% service charge on top of the Booking price with taxes and charges. I had to argue with the owner to resolve it. The corridor was not cleaned during our 3 day stay and was full of dead insects, which can happen in nature but still should be handled. The access road can be a bit difficult, if you come with your own car.

Summary: Good potential but needs better management

Positive: The property is the best option for birders and wildlife enthusiast. Well located on the river bank, few steps from the entry to sinharaja reserve. Close to the bridge with constitute a superb location for birding.

Positive: Great cook! We ate well here! Good place to stay for Sinharaja rainforest. There’s a river about 10m from the house, where you can swim! Extremely nice! (Watch out for leeches, but they don’t hurt and are otherwise not dangerous) We eventually (for the sake of moving faster to next destination) decided to cut our stay to just one night, which we decided at 1pm on second day, and they agreed to let us off the hook for 50% charge of the intended stay - which is more than fair, since we’ve blocked the room for the night and we’ve basically had a very late checkout.

Positive: Very happy with our stay here. This is a family-run lodge so it's not super fancy, but the hosts make you feel so welcome especially by cooking so so many dishes for breakfast and dinner. Easily the best home cooking I've had in Sri Lanka. The hosts are super nice, and the room has an amazing view on the river edge (as per the name), and you can swim in the river, which is nice. It is a close walk to Doranella entrance and the location is secluded from the main roads and village so it's great if you're looking for more privacy.

Negative: There is no internet- but all accomodation in the area is without internet and the town itself does not have any mobile coverage so be prepared. The soap in the bathroom was already used - I like that they like to recycle, but I think most guests would be expecting new soap.

Positive: The location and the staff on site. Surrounded by rainforest and is on the rivers edge. Staff were very friendly and kind.

Negative: On booking.com it said there was wifi services however there was none and also there was no service which was a very big inconvenience as we would have prepared for this if we had known. Some members of the group required wifi to attend to emails etc. We felt like the ad on book.com was deceitful.
