Poughquag Other | The Beekman Salt Box - Historic Hudson Valley Home

3 Bedroom Place in Poughquag

Stay in my fully renovated 1860 Saltbox house in the heart of Dutchess County. It is located approximately 2 miles off the Sylvan Lake/Hopewell Junction/Beekman Road exit off the Taconic State Parkway, directly on Beekman Road in the hamlet of Beekmanville, with its 7 historic houses and an old stagecoach stop nestled close to the road from the days when horses and buggies were all the transportation people used. It is located approximately 12 minutes from the Pawling Metro-North Station, and you could take a taxi here, but you would need a car to get around. There is an Enterprise car rental facility in Pawling that will pick you up if you arrange it in advance. It is also VERY easy to get here by car from NYC: 1.5 hours north on the Taconic. I am less than 3 miles from the exit, on the same road the exit is on.
There are three bedrooms in total: one downstairs with a queen-sized bed, and two upstairs, one with a full bed and a twin, and the other with two twin beds. This is a total of 3 one-person beds and 2 two-person beds. Comfortably sleeps up to 8 people , if one person stays on the couch, or on my twin air mattress. There is one bathroom with both a standing shower and a separate tub. The kitchen is fully equipped with All-Clad pans, sharp knives, and spices galore. The large patio, accessible through the sliding French-style doors in the dining room, has both a gas BBQ and a fire pit. The living room also has a wood-burning stove, which is very cozy in the winter. The house sits on almost 5.5 acres, and the Fishkill Creek bisects the backyard.
No car? For a $50 cash fee, I will pick you and your group up at the Pawling Metro North station 15 minutes away, take you to the local grocery store for supplies when you arrive, and drop you back at the station at the end of your stay. I can do this for a maximum of 4 guests. 6-8 guests = a $85 fee, as I will hire a second driver.
Available for short- or longer-term rental. Rentals longer than 30 days will require a cleaning every 30 days. The fee for this is $85 per cleaning. Rentals longer than 60 days require a phone conversation first. :)
The house has WiFi and four smart televisions — already set up with Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Youtube, and more. There is basic cable as well. There is a Verizon cell phone signal booster inside the house. Sprint has service here without it.
You will have full use of the house including kitchen amenities such as spices, oils, butter, etc as well as keyless entry with a coded door lock, access to two bicycles, and plenty of local information and help. I have lived in the area for over 30 years. I am also available for hire as a private guide/chauffer. Please email for details.
Children and small, well-behaved pets and are allowed.

Summary: We enjoyed our stay very much, (family of 5 and a friend). The place is larger than it may appear from the outside, bright and clean with very nice towels and linens. We used the wood burning stove and it was a great place to hang out. The view from inside the house feels like you are in the country, but you are close to town and other historical homes and churches.

Summary: This house is amazing. It has so much charm and was clearly restored with a lot of love. Everything in the home just feels incredibly warm and cozy. The property was great and it really felt like we were staying at a friend’s house. This has been our best home rental experience ever.

Summary: Thank you Alison for sharing your lovely property. We stayed 2 weeks, and wish it could have been longer. Loved the larger sitting room for all 7 of us to gather for movies, etc., and also loved all the cozy nooks for when we wanted to sneak away for time with a good book (of which you have many!) So many wonderful details in the décor. The yard and creek were beautiful, and so much space for the kids to run and explore. We had amazing fall weather, and enjoyed our morning coffee outside on the deck. The property was centrally located to many of the areas we visited such as Patterson, Wallkill, Warwick and Tuxedo. Also near Cold Spring (must go to Moo Moo's Creamery...best ice cream ever) Beacon (quaint town with so much to see, great coffee shops, art, cafe's) 30 min to Danbury CT (for Trader Joes & our fave restaurant Stanziatos...great food and drinks) This property is absolutely our first choice next time we are in the area. We have already recommended it to several friends. Thank you Alison!

Summary: It was 2 adults and a 2 year old toddler. Home is beautiful, comfortable and clean. Alison is a great host. She met us at the house and explained how things worked. We didn't hear outside noise and even though cars drive by all the time we didn't hear them at all. Bathroom worked great for us with standup shower & a tub for the little one. Cereal & coffee pods were available for us. House is clean no smells of any sort. Patio is big and perfect for grilling. Kitchen is stocked with plenty of utensils. We went to the farm close by spent the whole day there. Also, the waterpark in Fishhkill was a hit. When our daughter went to bed we enjoyed catching up on Netflix shows. Stop & shop and Dunkin donuts not far off. Fishkill has some shopping and fast food restaurants. We also went to poughkeepsie on our way back home stopped at Bounce so our daughter could play- about 20 minutes away. Lots of options for food and shopping there with Target, Shop Rite, and others. Walmart is 20 minutes away opposite direction. We would definetely return to this house because of clealiness and free of smells as well as peacefulness. Alison is attentive.

Summary: Alison is a wonderful host, very responsive, helpful and thoughtful. She's thought of everything. The house has everything you need and feels very homey. It's a beautiful old building, so much history and character but also comfortable! I wish it was warmer while we were there so we could play in the creek but the cooler weather allowed us to make the most of the fire pit and the gorgeous old stove in the house. I would definitely stay there again!
