A truly amazing setting, Villa Luminosa faces south overlooking Tankah Bay and the reef – with views on a clear day of the Tulum ruins and beyond. You can enjoy breathtaking sunrises and sunsets and experience the serenity that comes from privacy, the lush gardens, the music of birds in the palm trees.
Villa Luminosa’s unique location on Tankah Bay provides for an always gentle breeze with no strong west winds. Because Tankah Bay has its own reef that acts as a breaker, the bay is tranquil with only lap waves at shore making snorkeling unbelievable in the calm clear waters. Tropical fish, rays, and sea turtles are seen in the bay and coral heads. This is some of the safest, easiest, and best snorkeling on the bay. A walk along the coral and sand beach is perfect for exploring the tide pools and for shelling.
There are three restaurants on the bay—all within walking distance. Villa Luminosa is an expansive tropical paradise where inside and outside become one—a beautifully designed and decorated beachfront home with all the amenities you need for a perfect vacation. The rooms are spacious and decorated in a modern Mexican motif. A wide palapa roof porch with jungle tree supports (each its own piece of mother natures wondrous art) traverses the entire front of the main floor overlooking the beautiful vegetation of the grounds, palm tree tops, pool, beach and bay beyond. Reforested Tzalam wood Adirondeck lounges and a long dining table with chairs (made by local craftsmen in Bacalar) allow maximum enjoyment of this wonderful shaded outdoor space.- Behind are two generous bedrooms and baths on each side of a central great room furnished Mexican The dining area of the great room is furnished with a handmade dining room table designed by a local Mexican Architect, The focal point of the great room and the fully equipped kitchen is a naturally sculptured jungle tree that extends from the floor to the ceiling. There is also an office area with WiFi available throughout the house. -One of the highest rooftops on the bay allows for viewing the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets over water, stargazing, sunbathing, or dining.
The pool level features an open courtyard with a giant gathering table for 10, outdoor kitchen with refrigerator, gas grill, and two more expansive bedrooms and baths that open to the pool deck. The large pool and pool deck provide ample space for swimming. The deck offers shade for those who prefer to be out of the sun. Upon arrival Roberto and Lucia welcomed us like we were family. Everything was super clean, convenient, appointed, and unbelievably beautiful. The view is spectacular from all four bedrooms, the AC worked great, Alberto and Lucia’s cooking was fantastic (I recommend their ceviche), and the pool and ocean were super pristine and beautiful. We used a recommended excursion and did the half day to visit the ruins in Tulúm and the cenote. Our tour guide was fantastic. I can recommend this place enough. Felt like home but even better.

We were somewhat unsure how having live-in caretakers would affect our stay but they were the stars. Alberto and Lucy were superb. They're there when we need them and the rest of the time it's like they're not even around. The house is in great condition and very clean. We enjoyed every aspect of it and would definitely return, especially for Alberto and Lucy's homemade pico de gallo.

Summary: Property was as expected. Located just north or tulum , the location was actually great for being off the crowded areas but centrally located to Akumal and Tulum. The house is along a lovely stretch of beach amongst other small but sophisticated hotels , several of which have nice restaurants very close to the villa. The hosts were very kind and hard working. We also had groceries delivered to the property before we arrived. If you are looking for a quiet location to unplug a few days I would highly recommend.

Summary: The photos and discription were not as totally appeared on the website. The beach was nothing as described ..(no beach) without rocks and a slant where you could not sit or lay flat. No shade / palapas, etc on the beach area. The road driving to and from the house was total hell. Potholes and over run with construction. Thank God we did not have a new rental van.

The little bay made for calm waters and kept us safe from the seaweed that could be seen in mounds elsewhere. Lucy & Alberto are beyond amazing. Our girls thought they owned the house because once we were there, they are the only people we interacted with from a rental perspective. The meals they made were the best we ate during our vacation. They kept the house and the grounds impeccable. Honestly, they are invaluable to Villa Luminosa!!

The neighborhood is relatively easy to find, and very quiet. Everything was clean and we loved having Maria clean daily. The property manager stopped by a few days into our stay and gave excellent recommendations on restaurants/ruins/cenotes to visit that would be less crowded. We did have an issue with the electricity. The first four nights it would go out, usually for about 8 hours before power was restored, once for a little over 24 hours. Needless to say, sleeping temperatures were uncomfortable and we had no way to keep our food usable in the fridge or have cold water. It was fixed about halfway through the trip. Overall, we loved this villa, the caretakers Alberto and Maria, and everything about the property.

The snorkeling was great. I definitely recommend having groceries delivered the day you arrive. There was a companies number on the fridge we used for bringing drinks and food. There’s a couple hotel restaurants you can walk to. Cab rides were pretty expensive for 6 to Playa Del Carmen, $200 round trip without tip and $100 to Tulum. Alberto was a great asset to the property. All in all we have never rented a house before as we always stay at resorts. This was a trade off for peace and quiet vs. all inclusive resort feel. Our only complaint is the beds are pretty stiff. It was a great way to unwind and enjoy the tranquility of the property. If your looking for a sandy beach for swimming this probably isn’t for you because of the coral be we really enjoyed because the kids loved the pool.

The bay where the house sits it’s extremely beautiful and captivating. The most special part of our stay were the house managers Alberto and Lucy. They were so helpful and kind and their dinners were so delicious. We truly loved them! They made the trip so much more special. I have nothing bad to say about this rental. We all were so sad we had to leave. Anyone who gets to stay at Villa Luminosa is very lucky.
