Positive: We felt like we were transported to another time and place! Truly Magical! The garden so beautiful with views over the little village and the Dordogne river immediately below, the Castle immediately above, hot air balloons at dusk and a well equipped kitchen for us to cook the amazing local duck dishes! Our beautiful and attentive host Martine and owner Frederique, always so quick to reply with suggestions and helpful tips. And thankyou Martine for arranging our car space and greeting us on arrival and farewelling on our last 🙏🏻💖 a truly magical week of kayaking the Dordogne, exploring chateaus and incredible gardens, relaxing afternoons in the garden enjoying an aperitif and the beautiful endless twilight! Thankyou
Negative: As mentioned in the booking information, the access path is steep with cobble stones, so please take this into consideration. We were aware before we booked and managed pretty well.
Summary: We were transferred to another time and place ~ absolutely magical!

Positive: The terrace space was exceptional: very large, options for sun and shade, fantastic view, gets the afternoon and evening sun (we weren't there during the day so can't comment on that), private and isolated from both the tourist traffic and noise from the busy main road below the village. It looks great in the photos, but that is only a tiny part of the extensive terrace. Location in the village perfect: about half way up, so not close enough to the road to hear traffic, but not too far a slog up the steep main (only) street. Access to the road down to the patisserie etc. right by the house, and the walk up to the castle, while very steep, well worth it at sunrise (amazing light). Interior: clean and very comfortable for a couple. If the weather is not cooperating, the seating in the "lounge" area is limited to 3 people. Boulangerie, patisserie, and boucherie within 5 minute walk at bottom of village (closed Monday and Sunday) Martine the housekeeper: lovely, warm, welcoming, exuberant, and patient with our weak French and shifting arrival time. Frederique, the owner: we didn't meet her in person, but she always responded helpfully and promptly.
Negative: Getting our relatively light wheeled bags to the house was a challenge. No car access provided, even for a mini (while it was clear that cars could and did use the narrow streets for drop off purposes), and up a very, very, very steep road. It would not be physically possible for many people. We could have asked for more help (Martine did offer to take more than one bag), but being able to drop the bags off a bit closer to the house would have been preferable. Getting them out is less of a challenge because it is all downhill (provided the road isn't blocked by a large truck)! If having decent, sharp knives is important to you, bring your own or a sharpener (this is not unique to this rental -- it has been a consistent experience in our extensive rental experience!). If you are a reader, and don't use an e-reader, bring a headlamp or little reading lamp to clip to your book (again, this is typical for rental properties, but useful to know in advance)
Summary: Would return in a heart beat and hope to do so in future.

Positive: It's a great period property, located very centrally in Beynac-et-Cazenac. Plenty of room, and it has a large garden with fantastic views over the village and the river. There is an open kitchen, and a small seating area with sofas and tv - we did not use those though as there is plenty to see in the county surrounding Beynac. A particular highlight were the caves (grottes) in Lacaves. It is fairly easily accessed from souillac airport, traffic in September was pretty relaxed. Driving around and finding our way was easy.
Negative: As others have pointed out, it is an old property in the medieval part of town. We loved it for that reason, but if you are less mobile that could be a downside as you have to get your luggage up some quite steep roads on foot, and it is not possible to drive up by car. Somebody tried to drive up when we were there and got very badly stuck! The property itself is of high standard, modern, and nicely done up. If you're in good health it is absolutely not a problem (it was 33 degrees though when we arrived, this did not help!) The property is over three levels with bedroom and small bathroom downstairs, living space with open kitchen at ground level, and a second bedroom upstairs. I must stress this was not a problem for us, but, again, if you are less mobile this might be a drawback. We only used the downstairs bedroom.
Summary: Fantastic place, hoping to go back one day!
