Location, Location, Location!
Superbly located in Costa Rica's exclusive Maritime Zone (situated within 200 meters of the shoreline), Flying Toucans is one of the very few luxury home rentals in the area that is on the ocean side of the main coastal road. This unique location affords up close breathtaking views of jungle-clad mountains, sandy beaches, and the tranquil Pacific Ocean with quick, level, convenient 2wd access all year long. If you like beaches, you are in luck as we have an abundance nearby. From the villa, take a hike down to the point and discover two secluded beaches (one with its own 35' waterfall) or jump in your car and within five minutes be exploring miles of uncrowded footstep-free sandy beaches.
The living and dining rooms offer the romance of open-air tropical living, blending the comforts of home with the nearness of wildlife. The living room or kitchen are great central locations to gather and enjoy all that Flying Toucans has to offer. Plenty of seating for everyone. Don't be surprised at the abundant hummingbird and butterfly population.
The large fully-equipped kitchen, with its' beautiful custom cabinetry, and casual eating area is integrated with the living room, pool and views beyond. Whip up a smoothie or a six course meal...your choice.
Did we mention the pool? Once in, you'll never get out of this infinity-edge pool. Just three steps from the villa, the turquoise tile blends into the dazzling coastline and the popular Uvita 'Whale's Tail', a unique place to walk and explore. It overlooks Ballena (which means 'whale') beach National Marine Park so keep your eyes open for Humpback whales and Bottle-Nosed dolphins in the bay during whale season.
There is a half bath downstairs, outdoor shower as well as laundry room with full-sized washer and dryer.
Two well-furnished air-conditioned master suites are located upstairs, all enclosed. (King bed in one, Queen and Double in other). Each of the suites incorporates the use of local precious hardwoods for the doors, cabinets and vaulted ceilings. Relax in the comfort of air conditioning or open the windows and let the ocean breezes in. Too comfortable to get out of bed? Fine, enjoy the views from your pillow!... now if you could just get someone to bring you breakfast...hmmmm.
Spacious bathrooms feature tumbled Colombian limestone showers and an openness that continues to let the outdoors in while providing all the privacy needed.

Summary: Great house. The bedrooms stay nice and cool. The living room has a fabulous view. We loved the town of dominical for restaurants. We saw many monkeys, toucans, birds, coati and agouti. We thought we would explore the area much more but it was nice to just sit and enjoy the property. My only complaints which are minor is we found the bedding not to be the most comfortable but that’s a personal preference. And the photos on website were taken a while ago. Trees have grown in surrounding the pool and view. We did not have sunrises or sunsets since you only get those views certain months of the year. Still a fabulous house. Phenomenal host who is very helpful, responsive and probably THE best owner we have ever dealt with.

Summary: We have traveled extensively- but never Costa Rica. This place was by far our favorite and when we return to Costa Rica we will skip all other places. Everything that makes CR great is right there at flying toucans. It is truly a wonderful home. Saw more wildlife there than on any paid tours. Owners couldn’t possibly be more helpful and accommodating. The great reviews are accurate and it’s even better when you get there! We hope to be back!! My teen and tween loved it!

Summary: View and location are amazing! Small price to pay is the noise from the nearby Highway 34 at night coming from trucks using their jake brake. Otherwise highly recommended. Great host.

Summary: We stayed on the beach in zancudo for two and a half weeks , beautiful spot on the beach , did all the usual things like fishing , tours , hiking, zip lining , while it was awesome, We could not wait to stay at John’s house , we loved the peace and beauty and crazy wild life all around us , we have traveled to many different VBO , This house hits the mark on all levels, Comfortable beds , great kitchen , unbelievable wildlife and stunnng architectural design , You will be so comfortable and appreciative of the beauty that surrounds you , John helped us find a local place to buy fish , it was 5 min away , We had Tuna and prawns and snapper all week , We never left except to replenish our supply’s . We did check out a few beaches., You are close to everything but it feels like you are in your one tropical island. Totally rent this . I just hope I can rent again next year . Great week but not long enough . We also had the chance to see the green flash as the sun set , and we also had a beautiful rainbow one day . Thank you John &Mary your house will leave lasting memories for all of us Michelle & Peter

Summary: Flying Toucans has the wow factor in spades! The view is spectacular, and the property is totally private and provides the height of comfort in all respects.We didn't see the sloth, but were visited daily by a troop of Capuchin monkeys, families of couti and agouti. And toucans, vultures, pelicans and other birds were plentiful. Our kids had an experience they'll always remember. The beaches are superb, and close by. Local food is delicious. The hosts were extremely helpful and easy to communicate with.

Summary: Flying Toucans lived up to everything I had read in the description and reviews, plus some!! When you first arrive the views will take your breath away. Then as you stay with the open porch they just get better and better as time passes. Time just flew by drinking coffee every morning watching the sunrise and wildlife, truly peaceful and relaxing. We saw the monkeys, sloth (not much), toucans, raccoons, and a wide variety of birds. Montezuma bird and the sounds were my favorite!! The location was great to explore multiple areas from Uvita up to Quepos. The marina area and fishing in Quepos were wonderful. ATV tours at Morete is a must do for any family. Staff and tour were excellent!! We didn't spend much time at the beaches but there are several close by that we're not crowded. Food was excellent from the upscale restaurants to Sodas. Plenty of options nearby. Scala was pricey but well worth it and close by. House with the open air concept was absolutely amazing!!! We used the AC a few times during sleeping hours but mainly for the kids, I was comfortable without it. Not sure what else to add other than this place is a must and you won't be disappointed!! The host and his help were great and answered anything we needed!!

Summary: We were beyond excited to see this property based off the listing and it didn’t disappoint! Can’t say enough good things about this place and the host! The location is on a peninsula giving a 180-degree view so can see both the sunrise and sunset, and is just between Dominical and Uvita, each offering their own unique experiences. You feel completely secluded on the property but have quick (5 min walk) access to a nice boutique hotel for a quick dinner, if needed. The host provides detailed information for all the local beaches, including the two just below the property. A fun experience getting down and you have a small private beach on one side and a rocky tide-pool filled beach on the other with a waterfall. The wildlife at Flying Toucans is insane! Toucans everywhere, white faced monkeys, howler monkeys, coati, agoutis, sloth, and so many birds and butterflies! The layout of the property is perfectly designed. You have the outdoor living downstairs with the kitchen that opens to create a full outdoor space. The bedrooms are located upstairs and are air conditioned, that gets super cold. Two items the pictures don’t depict is the massive balcony outside the bedrooms (fantastic view), and the showers, which can be turned into open air showers (one has two large windows that fold out, and the other a French door opening to a small balcony). We travel quite a bit, and this was one of the best trips we have ever been on! Thanks for sharing this property! Pura Vida!!

Summary: Too many great things to say about this property!!! The setup of the rooms, the most comfortable beds ever, the best communication and information provided (I loved the little map to get to the beach below!), and the natural wildlife!!!! Three different types of monkeys visited us during our short stay on different days. First were the Howler monkeys, then the spider monkeys, then the white-faced monkeys that included a mom with a baby on her back!!! Toucans, butterflies, Coati, and others. It rained almost every day but sometimes only a drizzle and it was still magical!!!!! The mornings and early afternoons were very nice and the rain at night was relaxing. I can’t wait to book again to bring my family to the property!!!! Perfect in every way!!! Thank you for the experience!!! ~Lisa

Summary: Amazing: - The view & surroundings. We saw monkeys, sloths, toucans, coatis, & lizards every day. So glad we planned for some days at the house just sitting in the pool watching the animals, but still not enough. The wildlife was remarkable, we showered in the treetops, spent evenings playing cards surrounded by jungle sounds, watched the rain from the covered patio with a glass of wine! - Privacy. Security. Location - easy to get to Uvita, restaurants, groceries. Great tips & communication from John. - Space. Perfect for our family of 4, spacious bedrooms (teenage daughters shared the 2nd bedroom with 2-bed setup), bathrooms were good size, air conditioners worked well. The provided beach towels & other comfort items were really nice to have (laundry machines, pool floats, puzzle, games, bug/bird/animal identifier books, the girls even watched an old movie on the tv in their bedroom late one night) Not perfect but easy to overlook: - Road noise. Especially when it rained we could hear constant trucks' air brakes reverberating through the hillside. - Bugs. While downstairs you are outside - we stayed slathered in bug spray and still got eaten up. The staircase to the bedrooms is outside, so the only "inside" part of the house is the upstairs. - The open kitchen was nicely stocked but we found it too hot & humid to cook so we went out or brought home meals. We were paranoid about leaving food out especially when one of the coatis tried to sneak in while we watched!
