Fully Furnished quaint and quiet 2 bedroom 1 bath shotgun double has all the charm of its 120 years, yet all the modern conveniences, including fully equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms (queen beds), 1 full baths, and is very tastefully decorated. Located in the historic, quiet, and charming Uptown neighborhood of University/Carrollton, 4 blocks from Tulane University, 5 blocks from the streetcar line and 20 minutes to the French Quarter. The University/Carrollton neighborhood has the wonderful Maple Street corridor and the eclectic-hip Oak Streets all within walking distance or a bike ride!! Both offer dozens of wonderful restaurants, bars, coffeehouses and boutique shopping. Just minutes to Audubon Park, the Universities, Downtown or the French Quarter by streetcar or bus.
Master bedroom has 2 large built out closets, and a queen size bed. The second bedroom has a queen size bed as well. Internet, WiFi, and cable TV for your convenience and entertainment. All-White high thread-count fine linens and towels. High-end super comfortable mattresses with extra-comfort protective washable covers and duvets. Fully stocked modern kitchen with fridge, coffeemaker, microwave, dinnerware, toaster oven, beverages in refrigerator, single all stainless sink, dishwasher and professional series appliances, & gas range. Dining/Breakfast area adjacent to the kitchen.
The bathroom has the original claw foot tub/shower combination which is charming and I do like guests to know this in case they have difficulties climbing in and out of it.
The unit is 1,100 square feet fully furnished. Tradition holds that the name "shotgun" derives from the notion of firing bird shot through the front door and out the rear without touching a wall. The term itself postdates the shotgun's late-19th-century heyday, not appearing in print until the early 20th century. Since you have to walk through one room to get to another, the home is not completely private from one bedroom to the next, but more semi-private. Doors cannot be shut off as it hinders the flow of the central A/C system.
The laundry room is stocked outside in rear shared yard with high-efficiency full size washer and dryer.
Owner lives on premises. 4 people max (no exceptions), no smoking inside and off street parking.

Summary: I've always stayed in the French Quarter in the past, but after staying in this part of town I'm sold on Uptown for sure. The property owner obviously takes pride in her beautiful property. Very clean, super comfy beds, tranquil green space. Plus, it's a quiet, cozy, small town feel neighborhood. Everybody we encountered, neighbors, were so kind and accommodating. Great little night life scene just a short walk on Oak. You're right next to a picturesque New Orleans cemetery to boot. When I travel to New Orleans again, I'm gonna try like hell to book this particular property.

Summary: Most important thing to me is a good nights sleep…I’d give this location a 10/10 sleep score. Very quiet neighborhood at night, no car traffic, comfortable bed in the master. Recommend for a stay to visit fam/kids at Tulane. Covers the basics and location is ideal and an easy walk to Campus. I’d return. 2nd bedroom shades need a bit of fine tuning and comes with the creaks and charm accumulated over the many years.

Summary: The location was wonderful. We were able to easily walk to Tulane and the streetcar to get to other locations. The space was clean and the bed comfortable. I loved the charm of the claw-foot tub. Will definitely keep this on our list for our return trips.

Summary: We loved staying in this house. The location was perfect. This is my favorite area in New Orleans. The house is tucked away at the end of a quiet, peaceful street, but still close walking distance to several restaurants and coffee shops. Also very close to Tulane, Loyola, Audubon Park and the St. Charles Streetcar. The house was super clean and comfortable. We felt safe, and parking was easy. Had everything we needed, with the added bonus of the “authentic New Orleans-feel”. We will definitely be back!

Summary: Hillary Gardens was the perfect spot for our long weekend in town! I spent a lot of time in this neighborhood 15 years ago and was pleased to find it mostly unchanged. Walk to Lebanon’s (maybe my favorite restaurant in the US), Jacque Imo’s, Louisiana Pizza Kitchen, Rue De La Course, and the St Charles street car to head just about anywhere else in the city (the walk up Willow St was the best route at night). The duplex was super clean, and necessary amenities were provided including some soap, coffee, paper towels, and toilet paper. As others have mentioned, the claw foot tub and shotgun floor plan should be considered if you have mobility issues or are traveling with companions whose bedroom you wouldn’t feel comfortable walking through on your way to the kitchen. I specifically wanted to stay in a shotgun to share this unique type of home with my husband, who hadn’t experienced it before. We arrived late on our arrival date and departed early morning at the conclusion of our stay, so we never met the owner but communication was excellent and check-in was extremely easy. We’re returning in a few months and will be likely to stay here again!

Summary: My friend and I enjoyed this two bedroom property with living room, dining room and kitchen. It’s a traditional New Orleans shotgun house that’s been very nicely renovated. The owner grew up in the house, lives in the adjacent unit and was very friendly and helpful with parking. It’s a very good location about five blocks walk to the S. Carrollton streetcar, and it was interesting to be near the Tulane and Loyola campuses. No negatives.
