The beach at Ipanema became known internationally with the popularity of the bossa nova song, "The Girl from Ipanema" ("Garota de Ipanema"), written by Antônio Carlos Jobim (Fun Fact: he lived in the same location as our building). Staying here is experiencing a part of history! Ipanema invites travelers with its iconic beach, stretching endlessly into the horizon, where beautiful and bronzed bodies celebrating life embrace the sun's warm caress. Ipanema captures the quintessential spirit of Brazil, with a vibrant mosaic of cultures and flavors that dance through its streets and cafes to paint a vivid picture of the nation's rich heritage. From the rhythmic beats of samba echoing through the night to the kaleidoscope of colors in the markets, the inviting atmosphere fosters connections with locals who welcome you into their world. In Ipanema, every sunset is a masterpiece, every meal a culinary adventure, and every moment an enchanting story waiting to be written.
Why would you NOT want to book a stay with OBO Casa?
1) Our unit is loft-style, with an open layout. The bathroom is closed with a curtain (not a wall), and is transparent to sound. For some guests, this might not be comfortable or ideal.
2) The space is ~48㎡ (unsuitable for groups). Our property is intended for solo travelers and couples (with 1-2 children max). Guests under 18 must check-in with a parent or guardian.
3) Parties are not allowed. It is a private home, with personal belongings of sentimental value for the owner. So, if you want a location for your next crazy group gathering, this is not for you.
4) Local laws (and building security rules) mandate identity verification for all guests. We cannot fully confirm any reservations until this step is complete. Our neighbors and staff thank you!
5) We charge a $40 (200 BRL) fee to compensate our cleaning staff and a separate 15% tourism tax (to comply with government regulations) - these fees are not included in the nightly rate.

We strongly recommend using Uber. It will be easy, fast, convenient, and affordable. Using public transit from this airport is slow & complicated.
From Santos Dumont (SDU) Airport:

With Metro, walk to Cinelândia and take the L1-L4 toward Jardim Oceânico / Barra da Tijuca. 16 min (9 stops) later, you will arrive at General Osorio station.
Walk to the northwest intersection of Rua (Street) Teixeira de Melo and Visconde de Pirajá. From there, walk north until you arrive at Barão da Torre.
Note that this corner is the exit of a favela - it will feel unsafe but don't worry, there is a police car stationed there 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
From there, walk west and halfway down the block, you'll arrive at Bossa 107.
If your plane lands after midnight, we strongly suggest using Uber, since the Metro does not operate between the hours of 12:00 - 5:00 AM.

Summary: Back at OBO Casa for the second time, and man, it's still rocking! The vibes are just as cool and cozy as they were the first time I stayed. Seriously, this place has this modern, welcoming feel that I can't get enough of. Comfort is on point. You've got everything you need right there. Josh an amazing host. Super friendly guy and just makes everything feel easy. The place is always clean and well kept. Huge shoutout to Josh and his team for keeping this place awesome. I'm telling you, it's my go to every time I hit up Rio now. Can't wait for the next stay!

Summary: I was inspired to stay here because I have previously stayed in the building (Bossa 107 is fantastic - keep reading for me to explain). The apartment is impeccable and very cool and calm!! Every square meter has been designed with care. Everything was clean. The location could not be better; you can walk to the beach in about 5 minutes. The apartment is also close to a beach where you can surf (Praia do Arpoador). The building is very modern (which you don't see much in Rio), and there is a rooftop pool with a view (also rare to find). In addition, the building has a small co-working space in the lobby, which I used a lot. The staff at the lobby was accommodating. All in all, a five-star experience. I will be back. Summary: I had a fantastic stay at OBO Casa! The unit is beautiful and calming, full of high-quality furniture, appliances, and kitchen tools that make it feel like an intentional home rather than a hotel or vacation rental. There were many thoughtful details that made my time here very comfortable (e.g., stocked pantry with 50 different spices, contact lens solution in the bathroom, global wall outlets around the unit!) The location is perfect. It’s tucked away on a quiet street, yet still in the middle of Ipanema, and so close to the beach. This is truly the holy trinity, coming from a traveling nomad. Josh and his team were super responsive and helpful, not to mention fantastic guides to Rio.

Summary: I had an amazing stay at OBO Casa! I needed to book last minute due to changes of plan. I'm glad I ended up staying at Josh's place. It was absolutely beautiful and felt like I was in a very artsy five-star boutique hotel. Location was perfect and super close to the beach and everything I needed during my stay. Josh was also super helpful and very easy to communicate with. I really appreciated the added personal experience and meeting me in person during the check-in process. Josh also gave me some personalized tips based on my interests. I genuinely felt that he wanted me to have an enjoyable experience during my stay. Thanks again for having me! I wish I could’ve stayed longer!
