Kesley House | Sleep with the Cows @ New Day Dairy GuestBarn

3 Bedroom House in Kesley, Clarksville

The cows are ready to meet you at New Day Dairy’s GuestBarn in North Iowa! Cow gaze 24/7 while “sleeping with cows” in modern comfort! The loft features 2 large windows overlooking 150 cows munching their “cow salad”, lounging on the “beach”, or heading to be milked by “Rita the Robot”! You'll be fascinated by following one of the "painted" cow's life in the barn. Get up close to the cows & calves on guided intro & farewell barn tours! Welcome to New Adventures, Authentic Cows, and Comfy Beds!
The non-smoking GuestBarn sleeps 9 people (with an optional 10 in a pack in play). With 3 separate bedrooms all with their own bathrooms you'll be comfortable during your stay. A beautiful garden out front along with the expansive Iowa horizon can be enjoyed from both the porch or the patio (complete with gas fire pit).
Every stay comes with an Introductory & Farwell Tour plus a DIY continental breakfast! Enjoy hard boiled eggs, Dutch letter pastries (!), yogurt, granola, and more at your own pace. Use the fully stocked kitchen for your meals or dine in (or out) at local restaurants.
Guests are NOT allowed in the barn, near calf area, or in pasture unless with a farm tour guide. This is for our guests safety as even the nicest animal can be unpredictable and machinery does need to operate on the farm. Of course, our insurance likes this too.
You'll need a vehicle you're willing to drive on gravel to get here. In the winter (Nov-Mar typically), a 4WD or AWD vehicle is recommended as the gravel roads & our driveway can become snow-packed and icy. It's all part of the authentic farmstay experience.
Area Information: 3 hours from Minneapolis, 2 from Des Moines, and 5 from Kansas City sleeping with the cows is a great way to spend a weekend outside of the city! Clarksville is 10 minutes away, Waverly - home of Wartburg College - is 20 minutes, and Charles City is 30 minutes to the north. Each of these communities has great activities & restaurants if you're planning to spend multiple days in the area.

Summary: While the cost per night is a little higher compared to what I normally spend, the experience for my family was priceless. If you are on the fence, then that means just do it. Make sure to add the farmers experience which comes at an extra fee, but well worth it. I'm not sure who got more out of it, the parents or the kids because the entire experience was truly one-of-a-kind and something that our family will never forget. The family who owns the farm is amazing in every way. I hope we can find ourselves in this part of the country again!

Summary: Being at the dairy farm was such a great experience for all of us but especially our granddaughters! It was so much fun for them to see the workings up close and hear from Lynn about the cows, the birthing process, the robotic milking and on and on. She was so well prepared to answer the HUGE number of questions from our girls! Great fun to watch it all from the windows above while enjoying a nice breakfast, playing games, etc. The two tours set us up well to enjoy and understand it all!

Summary: We were back in IA for a 90th Birthday party and enjoyed our stay at the barn. Very clean and roomy. The grandkids loved watching the cows out the big picture windows upstairs. We got to see a fairly new calf in a pen. The hostess was really nice/friendly and did a great job giving us a tour. Relaxing sitting out in front in the garden area. Thanks!

Summary: I stayed at this property with my two granddaughters ages 7 and 4. They LOVED it! Our hosts went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. The fridge had a variety of cheeses along with milk, water, mini bagels and yogurt. That was a nice surprise. The beds were comfy. A bathroom for each bedroom and anything you would need in the kitchen. The property was spotless and the cow veiwing area is perfect for kids. Toys, games and several TV veiwing options. We will return for sure!

Summary: What a fun place to have a family gathering. The kids loved watching the cows. We even saw and got to name a new calf that was born during our stay. Communication and meeting our needs was phenomenal and Lynn even sent to my home address an object i left in the drawer in the bathroom. Great customer service. Lots to do in Waterloo and Waverly as well

Summary: Our family will never forget this amazing VRBO experience. Our hosts had an eye for detail, and nothing was missed. The VRBO was impeccably clean, skillfully decorated in cow-motif, and the beds were absolutely comfy. The continental breakfast was hearty for my teenager and had great variety which included local jams and pastries. We loved sitting around the fire pit and watching the vivid stars as well as gazing upon THE COWS. We took the Be A Dairy Farmer Challenge and grew a new appreciation for the dairy farmer family. Bottle feeding 6-day-old Dave was a true highlight. We urge anyone to sleep with the cows!
