Positive: The Bed, the chalet, friendly staff. Good location. Ample parking!
Negative: Breakfast was a disappointment. Not enough choice for cooked food if you didn’t want a full English breakfast. Scrambled egg on toast was very frugal- looked like one egg! Perhaps we should have had more of a choice. Not great value.

Positive: Ten of us stayed, two in each of five rooms. We were attending a wedding at nearby Quantock Lakes. This is a "motel" style accommodation, with separate rooms immediately behind the pub. It is family owned and run, and NOTHING was too much trouble for the very friendly staff. We all paid the extra for breakfast, which was excellent, and well worth it. The pub also has a dart board and pool table. There is also an outside seating area with plenty of benches where we were all able to sit out in the sun.
Negative: Nothing. Purely as a FYI, it is very rural, and although there is a small town nearby (Connington), it doesn't boast very much. Accordingly, make sure you pack what you need, in case you can't get it easily nearby.
Summary: There are two Malt Shovels in Bridgwater. This review is for the one in Blackmore Lane. Recommended!

Positive: Breakfast and dinner were both superb. Good size room which was extremely quiet as we couldn't hear the very busy A39.
Negative: Couldn't get the TV to work, we were informed that reception in the area is appalling. Just a minor problem, the odd sighting of the wall plugs to boil the kettle. also need another bed side table. Otherwise, a great place to stay and lovely friendly accommodating people.
