Villa Maria is your perfect private hideaway to enjoy all that Costa Rica has to offer.
Villa Maria is located in Pica Flora. This area in Atenas is wellknown for it´s Bali style houses. Villa Maria is built in this style as well, which gives the house an unique atmosphere. The house is very private, has a beautiful tropical garden and the view is breathtaking. The garden is home to a diversity of birds like toucans and motmots. Monkeys have been seen around the house as well.
A perfect hideaway to enjoy the best climate of the world.
The house has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a lovely cozy living room with a well stocked kitchen. Through the sliding doors you can walk out on to the deck to take a swim in the pool or just to sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Both the deck as the pool have just been renewed.
The views are breathtaking and look different every day. The house has Sky TV (with a great number of English spoken channels, HBO and a great variety of sports channels) and good wifi.
The house can sleep 6 but that is not recommended. It is ideal for 4 people.
(There is a third bedroom, but this is a very small room with a pull away bed, can´t be used as a full bedroom)
The locals call it Pura vida, which you will surely experience when staying at Villa Maria.
The centre of Atenas is only a short drive away but if you want to start your day with some excercise, the walk to town is easy.
The lovely little town of Atenas has a wide range of shops, supermarkets and restaurants. The Friday farmers market is very popular. You can´t get any of the local products fresher than there.
Because of it´s central location you can discover everything this beautiful country has to offer. The airport is only 40 minutes away, the beaches an hour and it´s centrally located to the main attractions.
Our property managers, Piet and Yvonne Asma, a multilingual (English. Spanish, Dutch and German) couple from the Netherlands are ready to make your stay the best it can be.
As an additional service to our house guests, they offer fee- based airport transfers to help you avoid the potential hassles you can experience in getting from and to the property on your travel days
They also provide car rentals and a variety of tours including daytrips to the Poas volcano, La Paz Waterfall gardens, the very popular organic coffee tour but also various more active tours like ziplining, horseback riding or a private Catamaran Sailing tour.
They can arrange for you to have your fridge stocked with your favorite groceries upon arrival, or have a home cooked meal ready for you on your arrival day. For special occasions they can have a local chef come to the house to prepare a gourmet dinner.
Villa Maria is a great hideaway to spend your well deserved vacation and to enjoy all that this beautiful country has to offer.

Summary: The first thing I said as we were being shown around the house was "It's even better than the pictures!". The house is lovely - spacious, well furnished and comfortable. Piet and Yvonne were SO HELPFUL! We stayed for 11 days at the end of a 50-day 'tour' of Costa Rica; they facilitated our car rental for the entire stay! They were both very responsive to questions and concerns both before we arrived and during our stay. The property itself offers a beautiful view - the whole back side of the house has glass sliding doors onto the deck. There's even a view from the shower in the master bedroom! Lots of lovely outdoor living space, too. Would definately stay again.

Summary: My wife and I and two other family members are all retired, active adults. We stayed for two weeks in this wonderful property. The beds were comforable and the funishings were attractive and also very comforable. The vault ceiling is spacious as is the great room. The kitchen is well equipped and the dishware was so attractive that my wife and I found the pattern online and have ordered it. Piet and Yvonne, the property managers were helpful and attentive, as stated by other renters. The transfer of keys and checking out were both perfect and punctual. This property has a gorgeous view of the valley and is ideal for bird lovers, since we saw motmots, hummers, toucans, a rufous-capped warbler, rufous-naped wren and several woodpeckers from our shaded deck. Needless to say, we look forward to our next stay.

Summary: 1. The property was just as described only better. It was clean, comfortable and private. Our morning coffee routine had us on the deck enjoying the spectacular views. The house has unique styling that just enhanced our stay. We loved that we were close enough to town to walk to it. 2. The property managers were EXTREMELY helpful. One thing that drew my attention to this property was the added services of setting up the airport transfers, stocking the fridge prior to arrival and meal delivery options. This was beyond helpful to us. Plus helping us with a rental car and setting up tours with driving directions. This made our first trip to CR very stress free. 3. We were finishing up our trip and packing to go home when my Covid test popped positive. Here is where Piet and Yvonne’s kicked into gear to help us navigate this frightening new development. Biggest issue was continuance of housing for 10 more days which they found a solution (thank goodness) plus made a grocery run for us and brought in an evening meal as we transitioned to the new house. Without their help, I can’t imagine what we would have done.

Summary: Lovely property with great potential. We stayed here a week and really enjoyed the proximity to the city, the pool and the amazing valley views. Several different places to sit and enjoy the natural surroundings and the wildlife. There are several operational issues that need to be addressed. The internet isn’t very stable especially with several users at once. One shower along with the tub drained very slowly. Overall cleanliness and kitchen readiness need to be improved. Piet and Yvonne are very attentive and will do their best to resolve the issues. (The TV didn’t work at first, but Piet worked with SKY to get it up and running). Would definitely stay again after improvements are made.

Summary: We loved our stay at the house. Very interesting decor, an amazing view and lots of privacy! It was close to town for grocery runs. We met some neighbors who were very friendly and welcoming. Piet and Yvonne were very helpful with all our questions. We’ll be moving to CR in 2 months and will be renting this home while we look for a home to buy.

Summary: This home was rented for a girls weekend and we absolutely loved it. The views were fantastic and the house was beautiful. You are completely one with nature there is no a/c so we slept with the doors open which was fine because the breeze was cool. Piet was nice enough to bring us a fan upon our request. Now there are a bugs you have to deal with but that is understandable due to the location. We had to get use to the geckos that are in the house to eat the bugs. We schedule all our tours through Aad which is Piet business partner and he was absolutely great. He went above and beyond to make sure we were completely satisfied. We were greeted by the house monkey who woke us up by beating on the guest room sliding door. Overall everything about this trip was better then we could’ve imagined and the memories will last a lifetime.

Summary: We enjoyed our stay. Piet was very accomodating and answered all my inquiries promptly. The place is even better in person. The views are amazing and very relaxing to just lay on the hammock and enjoy the good weather and views. The town is only about 5 minutes away and very easy to get to, there you will find some good restaurants. The beds were very comfortable and the place provided all the appliances that we needed. We will definitely be back for another break! Thank you for sharing your home!

Summary: Very beautiful home with amazing views! I booked this home for our family trip, and they were all stunned by how nice this house is. Very pleased with our stay here. The property managers also kept in touch during our stay to make sure didn’t need anything. And when we did, they were very prompt with their response (the grill ran out of propane at 7pm one evening. We asked Piet where to refill the tank, and he had one delivered within 15 minutes!!) Overall we had an amazing experience with this property. We will definitely be coming back here again!

Summary: My husband and I stayed for a week at the Villa Maria home. The days were warm and the nights were cool and breezy. It is a beautiful private home with a view of the Costa Rica mountains. We listened to and watched for wildlife visitors throughout the days we were there. Villa Maria is truly a little piece of paradise. But as sixty year old non-savvy/tentative travelers, we chose Villa Maria based on the rave reviews of Piet and his wife Yvonne. We found Piet and Yvonne to be the most gracious and helpful of hosts. With the help and planning of Piet we were able to have a variety of wonderful adventures - from a guided tour in the Arenal area, to a wonderful day up to the Poaz Volcano/La Paz Waterfall Gardens, to a white Water rafting trip on the Balsa River. The days that we opted to drive to the planned tours ourselves, Piet provided detailed instructions to our destination. ( his help with renting a car and providing pick up to and from the San Jose airport were an added bonus). Whether your plan is to relax in at the poolside and look out over the beautiful countryside of Costa Rica, or venture out for an adventure, this is a great choice for a Costa Rica vacation.
