Positive: We were in Va. beach for my wife's birthday and a concert. During our stay there was a car show on beach walkway and an Air Show that included the Blue Angels.
Negative: Scheduling stay and paying for it ahead of time got us a 1st floor room across from laundry and boardwalk was 50 feet from patio door with people always walking by. Location of bed was in view if we opened curtains, so they had to stay closed day and night. Asked for a room on higher flr. and were told no but we could have our money back and go somewhere else. Not a great answer or feeling.
Summary: We made the best of it and ending up having a great time with each other. Not in the room.

Positive: Location was great. Parking was easy in and out. The breakfast had a good selection although some of it was seasoned oddly. AC in the room was ice cold. The TV was large and good quality. All linens were very clean. The shower head was nice and the water pressure was very good. Water quality was nice as well. It's nice that all oceanfront rooms are truly oceanfront and not just a five degree angle view of the beach.
Negative: The person at the front desk at check in was rude. I believe their name was Kol. We arrived after 9pm and that means the front door is locked. I tried to check in on my phone but it wasn't working. It just kept saying waiting for room key which never came. Since I didn't have a room key at this point, we couldn't get into the front door. Kol was watching about 15 feet away, but she pretended not to see us for about two minutes until I started banging on the glass. She then rudely got on the intercom and asked if she could help us. I've never felt like I have inconvenienced someone so much at a hotel before. She could barely talk to us the whole check in process, and when she did, the contempt was evident in her voice. Never before have I been asked for my wife to show her ID as well at check in. This made us feel like some sort of criminal. When I asked about the policy, she couldn't explain why it was in place except to say she knows it's in place at this property. The lobby looks nice, but it's obvious that's where the effort stops. Entering the elevator, the staff couldn't be bothered to change the weather sheets on the inside of the elevator as they were two days old, and that was at the beginning of our stay. Walking to the room, it's evident the carpet in the hallway hasn't been cleaned in a while. It's dirty and it smells like it. On the floor that we were on, the at least two of the different sections of glass windows rattled as we walked by. That didn't give us a lot of confidence. When we tried to open the door to our room, we thought something was wrong because the door wouldn't open even though the light turned green. It turned out I just needed to throw my shoulder into the door to get it to open as the door was just that stuck. We ended up needed to do this each time we wanted to open the door. It was even harder from the inside.
