Summary: The old priests house is a bit quirky, but has a great view. I can't give the place a 5 star because you can hear every possible sound in the entire house. It lacks privacy and it's a bit rustic as well. It's nice for Sri Lanka, but not 5 star. That said, Michael is a fantastic host and goes out of his way to make sure that you have a pleasant stay. The food at the property was always delicious. 2 in our family require a strict gluten free diet and the meals were always very conscientiously prepared. We also did the hiking tour and the tuk tuk tour to the waterfalls and both exceeded our expectations.

Summary: We were very pleased to find this quite, peaceful, cosy and beautiful place. Surrounded by natural selection of plants, endemic for the region birds and animals and gifted with amassing views towards Victoria Dam lake Welikande was as blessing for us. Being close to nature at the site is combined with all needed facilities and the hospitable family managing the house. The offered cuisine was also delicious representing various local dishes. We had the chance to go on a hiking tour with a local guide - it was perfectly organized and conducted. I hope my family will have opportunity to visit this place for longer.

Summary: Firstly Shamarla made us so welcome and continued to provide us with fantastic food we had originally booked for 2 nights but stayed 5 as there is so much to do in this area Tuk Tuk Trekking was so much fun the waterfalls and tea plantations incredible to swim under a waterfall has to be a highlight of our trip. The house its self is very eco friendly and clean with beautiful handmade 4 posterbeds and a view that is second to none! There was plenty of space for us and the kids could run around in the semi tropical gardens looking at monkeys and parrots and squirrels all day long! We loved it everything

Summary: At the beginning of August we spent some wonderful days at the Old Priest House with our family of seven. The location is stunning with beautiful views and a lovely garden. The place is an ideal base to explore the Knuckles Mountains, for a daytrip to Kandy or if you just want to spend a day relaxing on the veranda. The meals were outstanding, and we especially recommend to take cooking lessons from Shamaria . She is a great cook. It is a wonderful experience to first go shopping for all the ingredients with Sanjewa and than to learn how to prepare several Sri Lankan dishes. Sanjewa speaks excellent English and is always on hand to help and to arrange trips like a trekking in the Mountains. The owner, Michael, is very friendly and helpful and provided us with all the information we would need. Meals are served in the main house, where you can also meet with other guests, use Wi-Fi or have some coffee. We had a great time here and hope to come back one day.

Summary: Space and tranquility the views and gardens and house were worth the money. To sit with a cup of coffee in the mornings, hearing and watching the birds on the covered terrace was just perfect, Shamarla (housekeeper) looked after us and the house so well it was hard to leave. We went trekking in the knuckles mountains and site seeing with Sanjewa (driver) throughout the center of Sri Lanka over to the beaches in Trincomalee. As a base for exploring Central Sri Lanka or just hanging about we can completly recommend this well run property.
