Positive: I live in Cape Town but I was born in Belfast and spent my childhood holidays in Newcastle. So this was a very special treat as when I was 8 years old my cousin had her wedding Reception at Slieve donard and I always wanted to stay but thought it would be to expensive. Please keep trying to do these specials as most Irish people don't realize the beauty of this Hotel and Newcastle has such alot to offer and of course The Majestic Slieve Donard Mountain, Tullymore forest and Silent Valley are breathtaking and for me so special as my father and his father and his father where all Bourne In THE KINGDOM OF MOURNE. I could write pages about this beautiful area and now that I had the Privilege of staying in The most Beautiful and Classic hotel at affordable rates I will be Recommending it to all my family and friends. I would appreciate it if you would pass my comments onto The Hotel and all the wonderful Staff for going above and Beyond. 🥂Here's to COUNTY DOWN MOST FAVORITE PLACE IN IRELAND and that says alot as I live in CAPE-TOWN Kindest regards Averil Phelan

Positive: The location and the restaurant and the restaurant’s staff
Negative: The decor is outdated, the pool is small and be ause there was a wedding on the day, it was very busy and crowded, the steam room was stinky. We didn’t have any bathrobes in our room nor slippers. We phoned reception, we were told they would send some as soon as but we waited over an hour - nothing came so we ended up going to the pool using our dressing gowns. Not ideal. The complimentary things were basic- for the price, i was expecting maybe chocs would be at least included. The coffee/tea box was almost empty. Overall it was not worth the money. Nice to try and say Ive been, but definitely not be back any time soon.
Summary: Was okay to do once- but I don’t think i would be back

Negative: Felt like a franchise. No personal touches. Got married here 20 years ago. A far better hotel in the past. The bar ridiculously overpriced. Breakfast not a patch on what it used to be. Such a pity.

Negative: Window wouldn't shut, but staff did everything they could to sort it Room very dark - poor lighting, and light on mirror in bathroom didn't work (though asked for it to be fixed). Putting on make-up before a wedding was tricky!
