Charming One Level Cottage! Walk to Mirror Lake! 3 easy steps from your car to one of 3 Master Bedrooms w/private baths! An extra kid's bedroom for 2 is attached to one of 3 masters. Newer Furnishings! 2 Family Rooms: one with a real wood burning fireplace and one with a toasty, gas log fireplace! AC, Heat, Computer, Wifi, 6 TVs, Private Setting with Giant, Covered Porch/ Deck w/fireplace and TV, Gas Grill, and Firepit in winter! ALL inclusive and move in ready! All you need is your toothbrush!
Hardwood Floors throughout, central Kitchen connecting 2 family rooms! 2 Giant flat screen TVs with movie library! Most chairs and sofas flip up and lay back for the lazy bears in your family. Games, maps to waterfalls, restaurant guides and golf course locations, info on zip lining, rafting, ice skating, swimming, and more in the area, are in the tourist basket.
At the red birdhouse, the winding driveway takes you up to the hill top private paradise with a winter mountain view, and beautiful N.C. hardwood trees while enjoying the awesome wrap around party deck and giant covered porch! There is plenty of seating on the deck with an umbrella table and chairs, an 8 person picnic table, sofas and swivel cushioned chairs! Fire up the Gas Grill and cook out with the lighted torches, the remote control fireplace and TV , and enjoy an atmosphere compared to none at night!
Inside, the fully equipped kitchen has everything like home: a griddle, waffle maker, crock pot, spices, blender, toaster, baking supplies, paper towels, pots and pans, mixer and more! Giant pantry, Microwave, Dishwasher, Garbage disposal, Electric stove, Giant Refrigerator , two soda and wine coolers , and laundry room with a stacked washer/dryer!
The newer furnishings and freshly painted interior are beautiful and you will love the bear collection throughout the home. Extras there too: Lawn chairs, picnic supplies, movies and games!
The In- town location is just 3 1/2 minutes to the grocery, restaurants, ice cream, and shopping! Walk down the hill to Mirror Lake where you can take the tip free canoe and enjoy the lake! Hike around the Mirror Lake community...lovely any time of year! And there is nothing like hiking to all the waterfalls, and the mountain parks. Enjoy cocktails on Sunset Rock or Glen Falls just minutes away! The location and setting can not be duplicated!
If you insist on working while on vacation, we do have high speed internet, computer, Wifi, fax , printer/copier, a cell phone booster, and desk supplies.
There is nothing like relaxing at 4200 ft elevation in the cool mountains of North Carolina at the Lazy Bear Cottage in the heat of summer; or relaxing in front of the fire in the winter with snow floating down outside!!! Don't miss this wonderful little peace of heaven!

Summary: This home was so gorgeous, spacious yet cabin feeling. We had plenty of room for 3 couples for a wk. And the porch? OMG, never seen one better. Outdoors but partially closed in w/heaters & fireplace to stay warm on those chilly days. Loved Highlands and Franklin. Great shopping and restaurants. Will be back.and Franklin

Summary: We celebrated Christmas in Highlands with a family of 3 couples and an infant. This is my second time renting this property and it is great! Super clean, comfortable, love the 3 king bedrooms all with en-suites and the best is the large outdoor covered deck with heaters, fireplace and tv. Very well stocked kitchen. Only 1.5 mikes to downtown. Will definitely rent again.

Summary: This was my 4th stay at this property. A brothers retreat in this instance. It is, without a doubt, my fave mountain rental home. Very well appointed, comfy beds, and very accommodating owners. Looking forward to my next stay.

Summary: This property was great! The pictures do not do it justice! It was super cute, comfortable with lovely decor and very comfortable beds! The outdoor covered area with the gas fireplace was definitely a plus and so enjoyable. Our group was four older adults celebrating a 65th birthday and we had plenty of room to spread out. The location was great. The house was well equipped and we were there when hurricane Helene hit. Thankfully they had flashlights, candles and extra water on hand. It was an amazing experience!

Summary: Tucked away in the Mirror Lake area of Highlands, this home is a real gem, especially for adults. 3 Bedrooms, each with super-comfy King beds (with 1 bedroom also having 2 twin Quality linens, towels, furniture, appliances, etc). This is a home that the owners also use; and the pride they put in their home is evident everywhere you look. This is my 3rd stay at this wonderful home, and many more are anticipated. My go-to place when I travel to the Highlands area.

Summary: First time staying at the Little Bear Cottage, but hopefully not the last! We have been coming to the Highlands for 13 years and stayed in several different homes, but this is easily our #1. All on 1 level. just 3 steps, which was great for us (70-something). Well stocked with amenities., nice dishes and silverware TVs everywhere. Rooms and bathrooms were spacious and comfortable. We had friends stay with us who had never experienced the Highlands before and they loved it. We are already talking about this as a location for future get togethers. You are just a few minutes from town, but it was so quiet and peaceful, you would have thought you were miles from civilization. Thanks for a great week!

Summary: We spent 4 weeks in August to escape the Florida heat. The property is in a heavily wooded and hilly part of the Mirror Lake neighborhood and only 5 minutes to downtown yet it feels very secluded . Plenty of places to hike and take long walks in the neighborhood. The house is well stocked and has everything you could need . The outdoor covered porch is great with large screen TV, remote control fireplace , propane grill , fans , etc. Property has plenty of parking spaces right outside the front door . Indoor space is roomy and comfortable. The Rec Park Pool is less than 10 minutes away. Owner is very responsive to questions. We lost power one night and owners had planned for that with a list of numbers to call and working flashlights in every room. This is our third trip to this neighborhood and this was the best property we have stayed in. Everything worked in the house and there were no surprises. Several close restaurants including On the Verandah, Highlands BBQ, and Los Vaqueros.

Summary: Perfect lay out of living areas and bedrooms. All furniture and appliances excellent quality. Extremely well stocked. Location only a few minutes from downtown Highlands and convenient to roads leading to other towns/attractions. One of the best VRBO experiences we have had. Would definitely stay here again
